The Weight Driven Model Nš 3
Back to the Lioret Phonographs
Issued in 1897, this machine is one of the very rare weight driven Lioret phonographs still alive. Which is true for the Nš 2 is even more true for this one: the clock-maker origin of Lioret cannot be forgotten when one sees the design of the mechanism with its Gran'Pa weight clock. The bottle was filled with "special" Lioret oil to put on the surface of the celluloid cylinders to facilitate their audition.
Close-up of the mechanism. The black end of the mandrel has to be removed to put the cylinder and back to secure it, The first 4 Minute cylinders were made by the adjunction of two 2 Minute ones.
From the 1900 Lioret catalog.
