The Spring Motor
Back to the Edison phonographs
Issued in 1895, it is the first spring motor phonograph made by Edison. This triple-spring motor called Triton was patented by Frank Capps, one of Edison's employees. The first upper works were the ones of the Class-M. Like sewing machines, the cover envelops the machine completely and fastens to the baseboard at either side. Only the fist Edison Concert phonographs will have also this deep kind of cover and front drawer.
From an early catalog.
