The Standard Model A (1st version)
Back to the Edison phonographs
Issued in 1898, this first version has only two clips to (try to) secure the lid to the cabinet. In 1900 this not very safe design was replaced by 4, two in front and two in the back. Known as the "Square top Standard" it is the only Edison machine with flat top lid (the "Square top Gem" cabinets were not manufactured by Edison).
From the February 1, 1899 T. J. Monks catalog, 174 fifth Ave., New York.
