The Theatrophone
Back to the Swiss Machines
I have been waiting to have this machine, which was in Alexandria, Egypt, for more than 25 years. Curiously, the cabinet has 6 legs, it is a reversible model with no handle on top, but two on the sides as for the Edison Opera or Bettini No 4. It has a Bruckner patent plate for the device to move the trunnion from the lower position to play the Standard size cylinders to the upper position to play the Concert size ones. The "hunting" horn is one of the most elegant.
The Bruckner patent specifies that the stylus angle remains exactly the same for both sizes of cylinders.
From a German newspaper of June 1901.
