(courtesy of Encyclopedia of Newfoundland & Labrador) Accountant Born: Boston, MA Educated: Carbonear, Grand Falls, Corner Brook In 1936 Rowe was admitted to the Institute of Chartered Accountants, becoming one of the first chartered accountants in Newfoundland, and in 1961 was honored by a fellowship in the institute. Active in community affairs, he served on the 1961 provincial Royal Commission into the trucking industry and from 1964 to 1966 chaired a provincial Royal Commission on electrical energy. Rowe served for 25 years on school boards in the Corner Brook area. He was also a member, and later president, of the Association of Integrated School Boards. His other contributions to education include service on the general advisory committee to the Minister of Education and on the Provincial Association of School Tax Authorities. G. C. Rowe Junior High School in Corner Brook is named for him.
