CANADA WINS 1999 'HERO' INTERNATIONAL YOUTH
BRIDGE FESTIVAL in DEN BOSCH, the NETHERLANDS

The tournament started January 4, 1999 with an opening reception, dinner, and friendly bridge game for all, sponsored by OCE-Nederland BV. The tournament was held at HOGESCHOOL 's-Hertogenbosch January 5-8. 24 teams from 21 different countries participated in a complete round robin which Canada won with 414 VP's, followed by Norway (401), Sweden (401) and Denmark (396).

Canada chose Sweden as their opponent for the semi-final match which they won 53-35 while Norway edged Denmark 51-45. In the final, Canada came out with a strong first half 14 imp lead 51-37 and held on to tie 36-36 in the second half to win 87-73.

The Canadian juniors send their thanks and love to their "guest parents" who housed, fed, and transported them during their stay. The memories and warm feelings will last a lifetime.

Our Junior stars will next be competing in the World Junior Bridge Championships, August 1999, in the Fort Lauderdale, Florida area.
