Canada Red (L to R): Sheri Winestock & Fred Gitelman (NPC), David Levy (Toronto), Jeff Blond (Montreal), Eric Sutherland (Toronto), Mike Roberts (Victoria),
Darren Wolpert (Toronto), not present Fred Pollack.
Canada Red won the Junior Team Trials in Miami in 1996. In Hamilton, the team
started strong and remained in the top half of the field throughout. A big win
against Russia in the final round ensured their making the medal round. Unfortunately,
Canada Red lost to Denmark in the semi finals and to Russia playing for the bronze medal.
Canada Red is a team with great heart and talent. These are players we will
be seeing and reading about for many years to come.
Canada White (L to R): Dan Nadler, Mike Nadler, Barry Piafsky, David Halasi, Ben Zeidenberg, Colin Lee (all Toronto), Katie Thorpe (acting NPC), not present John Gowdy (NPC).
Canada White is a young team who made their first appearance on the world stage in Hamilton.
Their seventh place finish (in the top half of the field) was a tremendous
debut. Many of these young men will be back in contention at the next World Junior
Championships. Watch for them!
