Semaphore has been around for several thousand years...the Greeks and Romans used it to send signals. As a matter of fact the Romans used flaming torches for nighttime!

Nowadays we use two flags (often yellow and red for visibility). Just a bit safer!

As the oldest trade in the Navy, the badge for communications has the highest priority when worn on your uniform!.
