The book of Revelation talks about beasts, there are good beasts and evil beasts and it sometimes difficult to know which one is being referred to. I will put all the verses unders these two headings. This document is not meant to explain what these beasts are going to do, but merely differentiate one from the other. If you wish to make a copy of this document to help you keep them straight when you are reading, then please do so.

In Revelation 4 - it give a description of the good beast(s).
Rev. 4:6-9 - And before the throne [there was] a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind. (7) And the first beast [was] like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast [was] like a flying eagle. (8) And the four beasts had each of them six wings about [him]; and [they were] full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come. (9) And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever.
These beasts are surrounding the throne and giving honour and thanks to him (God) that sits on the throne--so we know these beasts are good.
Ezekiel 1:4-28, gives a more detailed description, of the beasts in this book, but they are referred to as "living creatures," however, it is the same as the beast in Revelation 4:7-8.
Rev. 6:1-7 When the first four seals are opened, each one of the beasts take their turn to invite John to "Come and see" what is to be revealed upon opening the seal.
Rev. 14:3 - And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred [and] forty [and] four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.
In this next verse, it reveals those who have gotten victory over the evil beast.
Rev.15:2 - And I (John) saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, [and] over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.
Rev.16:15 - Behold, I (Jesus) come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.
Rev.19:4 - And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia.
Rev.20:4 - And I (John) saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I (John) [saw] the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received [his] mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
Do NOT confuse the mark or seal of God with the mark of the beast. See - Sign, Mark and Seal of God also see - Mark of the Beast--666
Rev.11:7 - And when they (the two witnesses) shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.
Rev.13:1-4 - And I (John) stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. See - Crowns (2) And the beast which I (John) saw was like unto a lepard, and his feet were as [the feet] of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority. (3) And I (John) saw one of his heads as it were wounded (or slain) to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast. (4) And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?
In Revelation 12:9, we learn that the dragon is, ...that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world:....
Now back to: Revelation 13:5-8 where it tells what the evil beast is going to do and for how long this will go on.
Rev.13:5-10 - And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty [and] two months (approx. 3 1/2 yrs.) (6) And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. (7) And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, (or nations) and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues and nations. (8) And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. (9) If any man (or person) have an ear, let him hear. (10) He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.
In Revelation 14:12 it tells us who or what the patients of the saints are.
Rev.14:12 - Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. See - The Ten Commandments and Sword of the Spirit--Word of God to help you with Rev.13:10
Back to Revelation 13 again.
Rev.13:17-18 - And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. (18) Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number [is] Six hundred three score [and] six. - See - Mark of the Beast - 666
So all of Revelation 13 is referring to the evil beasts, it speaks of more than one beast in this chapter.
In Revelation 14:9, it makes reference to the evil beast, but,
In Revelation 14:10, it tells what happens to those who follow the evil beast.
Rev.14:9-10 - And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man (or person) worship the beast and his image, and receive [his] mark in his forehead, or in his hand, (10) The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone, in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:
In Revelation 16 John has a new vision.
Rev.16:13-14 - And I (John) saw three unclean spirit like frogs [come] out of the mouth of the dragon and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. (14) For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, [which] go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.
Revelation 17 is about the evil beast again that was first spoke of in Revelation 13.
Revelation 17:9 - makes reference as to who the evil beast is.
The woman, spoken of in Revelation 17, is referring to the church/organization, or a particular religion.
Revelation 19 explains what the evil beast is going to try to do with him that sat on the horse, and what happens to the evil beast.
Rev. 19:19 - And I (John) saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gather together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.
Rev.19:11 - Makes reference to the one sitting on the (white) horse spoken of in the above scripture, ...and he that sat upon him [was] called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
Rev.19:20-21 - And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped him image. These both were cast a live into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. See - Furnace of Fire/Lake of Fire and Brimstone (21) And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse which [sword] proceedeth out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh. See - Sword of the Spirit--Word of God; also see, The Four Sore Judgments Rev.19:21 also makes reference to Rev.19:9.
In Revelation 20:1 - it tells of an angel coming down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand, and the next verse tell what the angel does. Rev.1:18 shows us that - I am he (Jesus) that liveth and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. For more information on the "angel," - see - Judgment, The First Resurrection and The Second Death - under the heading of "the keys."
Rev.20:2-3 And he (the angel) laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, (3) And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season - See - Judgment, The First Resurrection - The Second Death
After the 1,000 years have expired, it tells what happens to Satan next.
Rev.20:7-10 - And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, (8) And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom [is] as the sand of the sea. (9) And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. (10) And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and false prophet [are] and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
This is the last time the evil beast is spoken of, but it goes on to tell in Revelation 20:11-15, what happens to those whose names are not found in the book of life.
Rev.20:15 - And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. See - Furnace of Fire/Lake of Fire and Brimstone
