BORN AGAIN (or, FROM ABOVE)

In this Lord's Word Bible study document, Born Again (From Above), I will show you what Jesus meant by being "born again," - that is what this means "spiritually." You must be able to understand the spiritual meaning of the word "water," before you can understand this document.

All text taken from the version of the King James Bible

Let us begin this Bible study with a prayer, O God, thy heavenly Father, grant me the wisdom and knowledge, so that I may be able to understand this document, in Jesus name. Amen.

John 3:1-6 - There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: (2) The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. (3) Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man (person) be born again (from above) he cannot see the kingdom of God. (4) Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? (5) Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and [of] the Spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God. (6) That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Now let me explain the "spiritual" meaning of the word "water."

The word "water" in John 3:5, is not referring to the water in which you take a bath/shower, or that which you float a boat, or drink - it is not H20. The word "water" in this scripture is referring to "spiritual water." Notice what it says in vs. 6 - That which is born of flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

REMEMBER: - God [is] a spirit: and they that worship him must worship [him] in spirit and truth. - John 4:24

You need to read and understand the document, Fountains of Living Waters vs. Cisterns.

Unless you apply the "spiritual" meaning to the word "water," in John 3:5, you will not be able to understand what it means to be born again (from above) - from the Lord, or from heaven, but I just finished reminding you that God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship [him] (God) in spirit and truth, so, keep it in the "spiritual" context.

Many people think that being born again means to be baptized by either having water sprinkled, or poured on them, or even to be immersed in water - that is H20, but what it means "spiritually" is to be immersed in the "water" or "waters," is to be immersed in the word of God or the Lord.

Baptism by immersed in H20, - is to receive the baptism of repentance of sin, and the reminder that you are to changes your ways from that of sin and be converted and become a "new creature," or new person and make a conscious effort to follow the ways of the Lord, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.

Acts 2:38 - Then Peter said unto them, (the people), Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Repent - Acts 2:38

John the Baptist is speaking in this next scripture,

Matt.3:2, 8 - And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. (8) Bring forth therefore fruits meet (or, suitable) for repentance: - See - Parable of the fruit--Tree of Life

I have explained the phrase, "the kingdom of heaven is at hand," in Parable of the Mustard Seed

Acts 3:19 - Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;

II Cor.7:10 - For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation - II Cor.7:10

Please read II sam.12:13; Jer.31:18-20; Matt.26:75; and Zech.12:10

Now let me continue explaining baptize -

If we look at Matt.3:11, we see that John the Baptist is saying to the people, - I indeed baptize you with water (H20) unto repentance: but he (Jesus) that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he, (Jesus) shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and [with] fire.

The "fire," is not fire which you cook your food with or burn your fingers on, it is "spiritual fire" that John the Baptist is talking about. Please see - Furnace of Fire/Lake of Fire and Brimstone.

When one is truly baptized in the Lord, you become a new person within spiritually - what the bible calls a "new creature," in which your old ways will pass away because they will be purged (or, burned out of you spiritually) with unquenchable fire, and all things become new - in otherwords, you begin following the ways of the Lord - See II Cor.5:17, Matt.3:12 and Gal.5:22-26, also see the explanation of "new creature" later in this document, and pray for the peace of Jerusalem. - See - Pray and Prayer; also see - I Peter 3:21 and I John 5:18

So not only do you have to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as the begotten Son of God, who lived on earth in the flesh, who gave his life for a ransom/sacrifice, or, sweet savour for the sins of the world, was crucified, buried and rose from the dead on the third day and now sits on the right hand of God--BUT, you must repent of your old ways, that is the works of the flesh - see - Gal.5:19-21; Rom.7:4-5 in order to be born again.

Gal.5:25 - If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. See - Parable of the Fruit--Tree of Life

If you want to be in the presence of the Lord and the kingdom of heaven, you will have to "overcome" the works of the flesh, because you cannot be in the presence of the Lord and the absence of the Lord at the same time. - See - Where Are Heaven and Hell; Parable of the Fruit--Tree of Life

You will also have to know and understand where the "spiritual heaven" is, in order to understand where the Kingdom of God is, referred to in John 3:5. The "spiritual heaven" has been explained in the documents, Where are Heaven and Hell, as well as The Foundations of Heaven and Earth

Now let me continue explaining the phrase -

except a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God - John 3:3

Gal.6:15 - For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. ("new creature" will be explained near the end of the document)

Titus 3:5 - Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

I Peter 1:23 - Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

John 1:13 - Which were born, not of the blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

I John 3:9 - Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed (God's word) remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. - See - Parable of the Kingdom and Sower Scriptural Definitions - under "Seed," (Luke 8:11) also - Parable of the Tares of the Field, (Matt.13:37); and Parable of the Sower

Eph.2:5 - Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace {or, by whose grace} ye are saved;)

James 1:18 - Of his (the Lord's) own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.

II Cor.5:17 Therefore if any man [be] in Christ, [he is] (or, let him be) a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new (again - "new creature" will be explained near the end of the document)

except a man be born of water and [of] the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God - John 3:5

Mark 16:16 - He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. - See - Baptize, Salvation, Faith, Dead and Death

that believeth and is baptized shall be saved - Mark 16:16

John 3:18 & 36 - He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (36) He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

but he that believeth not shall be damned - Mark 16:16

John 12:48 - He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

that rejecteth me - John 12:48

Luke 10:16 - He that heareth you heareth me, and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me

by works of righteousnes which we have done - Titus 3:5

Rom.3:20 - Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law [is] the knowledge of sin.

But -

by the washing of regeneration, - Titus 3:5

John 3:3 & 5 - Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man (person) be born again (from above) he cannot see the kingdom of God. (5) Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and [of] the Spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God.

I Peter 3:21-22 - The like figure whereunto [even] baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: (22) Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and power being made subject unto him.

is born of God doth not commit sin; - I John 3:9

I John 5:18 - We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

when we were dead in sins - Eph.2:5

Rom.5:6 - For when we were yet without strength, in due time (or, according to the time) Christ died for the ungodly.

In the Old Testament, there was no way into the kingdom of God, or heaven - it was not until Jesus came and sacrificed his life - was crucified - or offered his life for a ransom - a "sweet savour" - was there a way into the kingdom of heaven. - See - Baptize, Salvation, Faith, Dead and Death for an explanation of "sweet savour" - look under sweetsmelling savour.

quickened us together with Christ - Eph.2:5

Rom.6:4-6 - Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. (5) For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also [in the likeness] of [his] resurrection. (6) Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with [him], that the body of sin might be destroyed, that hence forth we should not serve sin.

REMEMBER:-

I John 3:4 & 8 - Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. (8) He that committeth sin is of the devil: for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. - See - Baptize, Salvation, Faith, Dead and Death; also see, Judgment, The First Resurrection and The Second Death

buried with him by baptism into death: - Rom.6:4-6

Col.2:11-12 - In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: (12) Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with [him] through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead

as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father - Rom.6:4-6

I Cor.6:14 - And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power.

As God raised, or resurrected Jesus, so likewise will the Lord Jesus raise us at the appointed time. The operative phrase is, "so likewise will the Lord Jesus raise us at the appointed time," please see - Baptize, Salvation, Faith, Dead and Death; also Parable of the Tares of the Field, to have a better understanding of what this means.

Note:- The word "rapture" is not found in the King James Bible.

new creature - Gal.6:15

II Cor.5:17 - Therefore if any man [be] in Christ, [he is] (or, let him be) a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. - See The Husband and the Bride - The Kingdom of God; also see - Judgment, The First Resurrection and The Second Death.

Is.65:17 - For, behold, I (the God of truth/Spirit of truth) create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind. - See - The Comforter, The Holy Ghost/Spirit; The Spirit of Truth - The Wisdom of God.

As "new creatures," or a person who is living the ways of the fruits of the Spirit and the commandments of God, we look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

new heavens and a new earth - Is.65:17

II Peter 3:13 - Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

Is.66:22 - For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.

Gal.4:26 - But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.

Rev.3:12 - Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God. and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

Rev.21:1-2 and 10 - And I (John), saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. (2) And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a birde adorned for her husband. (10) And he (the angel) carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,

Rev.21:5 - And he (Jesus) that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, (John), Write: for these words are true and faithful.

All thoses who have repented and overcome the works of the flesh, will be in the "new city - Jerusalem" right here on earth.

As I stated earlier, pray for the peace of Jerusalem. - See - Pray and Prayer

I have explained the word "sea" - Rev.21:1, in the Foundations of Heaven and Earth

Jesus could very easily have explained to Nicodermus, a ruler of the Jews, that night when he came and asked Jesus specifically about being born the second time - see John 3:1-4. But Jesus knew before he came to us as the Son of God/Son of man, there was a plan that had to be fulfilled, because with the Old Testament, there was no way into the kingdom of heaven. The Son of God came in the flesh, to live among the people to experience first hand what it would be like to be tempted of the devil, and how difficult it was to resist the devil's schemes.

Jesus likewise knew before he came, that he was going to be sacrified, or offered as a "sweet savour," or given for a ransom for the sins of the people, so that we would have a way into the kingdom of heaven. And Jesus knew that if he explained everything to Nicodemus that he probably would not have been crucified.
