In this document, Fountain of Living Waters vs Cisterns, I will show you the fountain of living waters is the word of God and living and doing that of the ten commandments. Cisterns are those who have decided to go a different direction--the opposite direction from God's ways and commandments. I will give you the "spiritual" meaning. See - Sign, Mark and Seal of God; Parable of the Fruit--Tree of Life

Let us begin this Bible study with a prayer, O God, thy heavenly Father, grant me the wisdom and knowledge, so that I may be able to understand this document, in Jesus name. Amen.
Let me begin by explaining the meaning of the word -
"water," or "waters" - This is not referring to the water, or H20, that you drink to wet your mouth/throat, take a bath/shower, or float your boat, but - "spiritual" waters, are the words of the Lord. Please see John 4:14; John 6:35 and John 7:37-39 below.
Let us take a closer look at part of this scripture, ... he that believeth on me shall never thirst, John 6:35, we should be able to see from this, that Jesus is not talking about a substance to wet your mouth, or throat. No, Jesus is referring to "believing on me," (or, him). Jesus said, ... If any man (person) thirst, let him come unto me, and drink, John 7:37, if you continue reading, you will see that Jesus, was refering to the Spirit...., John 7:39. Jesus also said, ... I am the bread of life: ...., John 6:35. - See - Meat of God or Bread of Life
Let us take a moment to look at -
Rev.2:7 - He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I (Jesus) give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
Overcometh what? - the adversities of this world - Satan and the works of the flesh, - see Gal.5:19-21 - those who want to follow their own ways, or - drink the waters out of thine own cistern - Prov.5:15 - See - Cisterns which has been explained later in this document.
tree of life - Rev.2:7
Gen.2:9 - And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
Rev.22:2 and 14 - In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, [was there] the tree of life, which bare twelve [manner of] fruits, [and] yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree [were] for the healing of the nations. (14) Blessed [are] they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. - See - Parable of the Fruit--Tree of Life; Ten Commandments
In the Bible, people are often referred to as "trees," so, "... the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God, Rev.2:7, and, ... the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil, Gen.2:9 - the "spiritual" meaning is referring to your "brain." Your "brain" is the only part of your body which knows the difference between good and evil, or right and wrong. Before the serpent deceived Adam and the woman, they only knew one way - God's way. Once they partook of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, their eyes (or, their mind's) shall be opened and they shall be as gods knowing good and evil - Gen.3:5, and immediately they realized they were naked and sewed fig leaves together - Gen.3:7
You have the choice of following the commandments of God, and the fruit of the Spirit, which is the way or "the tree of life," and live or, you can follow your own way which would be "the tree of knowledge of good and evil," the works of the flesh - or, cisterns and die.
Matt.7:13-14 - Enter ye in at the strait gait: for wide is the gate, and broad [is] the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: (14) Because strait [is] the gate, and narrow [is] the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
Blessed [are] they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. - Rev.2:14
The "city," is referring to the "new city," with is referring to the "new Jerusalem," that comes down from God out of heaven, - see Rev.3:12 and Rev.21:2 - and this refers to a new way of life or living. You will need to read and understand the following documents, Temples of God--Churches; Born Again (From Above); you will need to understand where the "spiritual heaven" is, and you can find this in The Foundations of Heaven and Earth; Where Are Heaven and Hell
Jesus tell us in -
Rev.2:16 - Repent; or else I (Jesus) will come unto thee quickle, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth. - See - Sword of the Spirit--Word of God
will fight against them with the sword of my mouth - Rev.2:16
II Thes.2:8 - And then shall that wicked be revealed whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming. - See - Sword of the Spirit--Word of God Also refer back to John 7:39 above, where Jesus is speaking "of the Spirit;" and read Is.11:4
Jer. 2:13 - For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me (God) the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns that can hold no water.
James 3:11 - Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?
What this is saying is that you cannot do as you want and still live by God's laws at the same time. You can have one or the other, but not both. For example, you cannot stand on your feet and stand on your head, in the upright position, at the same time, neither can you live by the fruits of the Spirit and the works of the flesh at the same time. See - Parable of the Dishonest Stewart, Also Mammon or Faith; Parable of the Fruit--Tree of Life
John 4:14 - But whosoever drinketh of the water that I (Jesus) shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I (Jesus) shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
John 6:35 - And Jesus said unto them, I (Jesus) am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. See - Bread of Life--Word of God
John 7:37-39 - In the last day, that great [day] of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. (38) He that believeth on me (Jesus), as the scriptures hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living waters. (39) (But this spake he (Jesus) of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet [given]; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
Jesus had not yet been crucified and therefore had not yet risen to sit at God's right hand, and the Holy Ghost or the Comforter had not been sent to us yet.
if any man thirst - John 7:37
Is.55:1 - Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
The words of the Lord are free. See - Mission of the Disciples
Rev.3:20 - Behold I (Jesus) stand at the door, and knock: if any man (person) hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
I will come in to him, and sup with him - Rev.3:20
John 14:23 - Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him and make our abode with him.
Rev.7:17 -For the Lamb (Jesus) which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of water: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.
Rev.14:7 - (An angel) Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
Rev.21:6 - And he (Jesus) said unto me, It is done, I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of living water of life freely.
Rev.22:17 - And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come, And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. See - The Husband and The Bride--The Kingdom of God
So, you can see that the fountain of living water is living by the commandments of God, and not living contrary to God's ways. See - The Good Shepherd; and Ten Commandments
II Kings 18:31 - Hearken not to Hez-e-ki'ah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me, and then eat ye every man of his own vine, and every one of his own fig tree, and drink ye every one of the waters of his own cistern:
Prov.5:15 - Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.
These two verses show that the people have decided to take to their own devices, because the people think that they know what is best for themselves, and not follow God's ways.
Is.2:8 - Their land also is full of idols; (nomentities) they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made.
In other words, all things made and/or done by humans is more important to many of us, than worshipping God. - See - Parable of the Fruit--Tree of Life
Jer.2:13 - For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed hem out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water. - See - Iniquity and Vanity
It is truely your decision, whether you follow God's way - the fruits of the Spirit and the commandments and be fed by Jesus and led unto the fountain of living waters, or follow your own way, do your own thing and drink from your own cistern or well. The choice is yours. See -Sign, Mark and Seal of God Parable of Talents -- Not Every Body Shall Enter the Kingdom of Heaven
This document is meant to help you understand your Bible more easily, however, it may not give you all the answers, you will need to study your Bible as well as read other documents, but let no one deceive you, prove all things; hold fast that which is good, because, ultimately, you, are responsible for your own salvation.
Let us end this Bible study with a prayer - O God thy heavenly Father, please help me to be a better person each day, to follow the commandments, and help me to strive each day to be more in thy presence, in Jesus name I ask. Amen.
