WHERE ARE HEAVEN AND HELL

In this Lord's Word Bible study document, Where Are Heaven and Hell, I will show you where they are "spiritually," while you are living here on earth. Let me repeat that, while you are living here on earth. It is important for you to understand, there are different levels of heaven. In The Foundations of Heaven and Earth, I showed you where the "third heaven" is, and it is this level of heaven and hell that I will be dealing with in this document and other than what you will read in this document, I will not be explaining the other levels of heaven.

I will also give you some scripture to show you who has ascended into heaven, as well as what happens when you die, again, however, I will not go into a lot of detail, you will have to study on your own.

All text taken from the King James Version of the Bible

Let us begin this Bible study with a prayer, O God, thy heavenly Father, grant me the wisdom and knowledge, so that I may be able to understand this document, in Jesus name. Amen.

Let us first take a look at a few scripture so that I can show you that there are different levels of heaven, before I begin to show you where heaven and hell are while you are living here on earth.

Eph.1:17-23 - That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdon and revelation in the knowledge of him: (18) The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his interitance in the saints, (19) And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, (20) Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, (21) Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: (22) And hath put all things under his (Jesus') feet, and gave him (Jesus) to be the head over all things to the church, (23) Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all. - See - Temples of God--Churches

Eph.2:2-3 - Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, (Satan) the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: (3) Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. - See - Parable of the Fruit--Tree of Life

So, in Eph.1:21, we see that there are principality, power, might and dominion, and that every name that is named not only in this world, but of that (world) which is to come; Jesus has put all things under his feet, and that God gave Jesus to be the head over all things to the church - Eph.1:22; which is his body, the fulness of him that fulleth all in all, - Eph.1:23. And many of us walk according to the prince of the power of the air (Satan) the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience, whom we have all had conversations in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature the children of wrath - Eph.2:2-3. I have explained to you in other documents, that you have the power to cast Satan out of your own mind, and that you can do this quietly, but firmly - but just do it, if you want to be in the presents of heaven while you are living here on earth..

Let us also take a look at -

Col.1:10-22 - That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; (11) Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; (12) Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: (13) Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: (14) In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: (15) Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: (16) For by him (Jesus) were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, (Jesus), and for him: (Jesus), (17) And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. (18) And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he (Jesus) might have the preeminence (19) For it pleased the Father that in him should all fullness dwell; (20) And having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him (Jesus) to reconcile all things unto himself, (Jesus); by him (Jesus), I (Paul) say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. (21) And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled (22) In the body of his flesh though death, to present you holy and unblameable and unrepraveable in his sight: - See - Heirs and Joint-Heirs With Christ

Again we see in the above scripture, that there are different levels in heaven as well as in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers, but they were all created by him (Jesus), and for him (Jesus) - Col.1:16, and that he (Jesus) is the head of the body, the church: (vs.18), and that we were sometime alienated and enemies in our mind by wicked works, (vs.21), but, we are to walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; (vs.10) and giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: (vs.12) - See - Parable of the Fruit--Tree of Life; Tithing and Charity; Heir and Joint-Heir With Christ

However, let me make one thing more clear so you do not make the mistake and assume that all of the above are heavenly levels or, places, because, Col.1:16 says, for by him (Jesus) were all things created that are in heaven and that are in earth, visible and invisible, then it goes on to list them - whether they be thrones, or dominions or principalities, or powers.

While dominions could be heavenly things, they are definitely earthly things - it is a government, read Daniel, chapter 7; Luke 1:32-33 and Rev.11:15 for yourself, it may help you with one of the other levels mentioned above, eg., throne or thrones which again are both heavenly as well as earthly.

...All things were created by him, (Jesus, {or, the Word,}) and for him: (Jesus) - Col.1:16 {and John 1:1-3}

We also see in -

I Cor.15:39-40 - All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds. (40) There are also celestial (heavenly) bodies and bodies terrestrial, (earthly,): but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.

I Cor.15:38 - But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body. You can read the whole chaper for yourself.

So now that we know that there are different levels of heaven, let us begin with -

Is.66:1 - Thus saith the LORD, the heaven [is] my throne, and the earth [is] my footstool: where [is] the house that ye build unto me? and where [is] my place of rest? - See Temples of God--Churches; The Foundation of Heaven and Earth
Also see - I Kings 8:27; II Chr.6:18; Matt.5:34; Acts 7:48-49; Acts 17:24; II Cor.12:2

In the Foundations of Heaven and Earth, I have explained the phrase "heaven of heavens". In Temples of God--Churches, I have explained the words "house/building."

Remember: John 4:24 - God [is] a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship [him] in spirit and in truth.

[is] a Spirit: - John 4:24

Acts 17:24-29 - God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is LORD of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; (25) Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; (26) And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; (27) That they should seek the LORD, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: (28) For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. (29) Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.

Let us look at the first two commandments which were given to Moses by God.

  1. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
  2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.
    - See - Ten Commandments

We are not to have any other gods before me (God) and we are not to make unto ourselves any graven images of stone, gold or silver and worship them or worship before them. Read Acts 24:29 above again and review the first two commandments of God above again.

Now let me continue with - [is] a Spirit - John 4:24

II Cor.3:17 - Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord [is] there [is] liberty

"liberty" - that of being free from captivity - or imprisonment of Satan/the devil. For more information on captive or captivity - see - Parable of the Tares of the Field

though he be not far from every one of us: - Acts 17:27

I Kings 8:27 - But will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded?

Jer.23:24 - Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.

I have included Jer.23:24, to show you that there is nowhere you cannot hide from the Lord - no "secret places" to hide, that the Lord will not be able to see you, not even in your imagery. You can find a further explanation of the word "chamber" in the the Four Sore Judgments

Ezek.8:12 - Then said he (the Lord God) unto me, (Ezekiel), Son of man hast thou seen what the ancient of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the chambers of his imagery? for they say, The LORD seeth us not; the LORD hath forsaken the earth.

not I fill heaven and earth - Jer.23:24

II Chr. 2:6 - But who is able to build him an house, seeing the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain him? who [am} I then, that I should build him an house, save only to burn sacrifice before him?

Remember: - This document is dealing with the "spiritual" aspect of heaven and hell and you must always keep this in mind. I have also explained the phrase "heaven of heavens" in the document The Foundation of Heaven and Earth.

Now let us continue with the phrase "not I (the Lord) fill heaven and earth?" - Jer.23:24

II Chr.16:9 - For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of [them] whose heart [is] perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.

Ps. 11:4 - The LORD [is] in his holy temple, the LORD's throne [is] in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men.

Please read all of Psalm chapter 11, it is only 7 verses long, but refer to the various word definitions and phrases which I have explained in the various documents, eg., mountain, bird, heaven, etc. and keep it in the "spiritual" meaning.

The word "shew" often means - "minister, to minister unto, to teach," or Webster's Dictionary says - explain, however, the word "shew" does not always use the above definitions.

Let me continue with -

Ps.33:13 - The LORD looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men.

Also see - I Kings 8:27 and Isaiah 66:1 above again for further scripture of "not I (the Lord) fill heaven and earth?"

the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth - II Chr.16:9

Job 34:21 - For his (God's) eyes [are] upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his goings

Prov.5:21 - For the ways of man [are] before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.

Prov. 15:3 - The eyes of the LORD [are] in every place, beholding the evil and the good. - Please read all of Proverbs chapter 15

Jer.16:17 - For mine eyes [are] upon all their ways: they are not hid from my face, neither is their iniquity hid from mine eyes. - See - Iniquity and Vanity

Jer.32:17 - Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, [and] there is nothing too hard for thee: (18) Thou shewest lovingkindness unto thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them: the Great, the Mighty God, the LORD of hosts, [is[ his name, (19) Great in counsel, and mighty in work: for thine eyes [are] open upon all the ways of the sons of men: to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings: - See - Parable of the Fruit - Tree of Life

Also read - Zechariah 4:10

LORD looketh from heaven - Ps. 33:13

Ps.14:2 - The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, [and] seek God. - Please read all of Psalm chapter 14 and chapter 15.

Again, I remind you to keep this in the "spiritual" aspect; in the document Temples of God--Churches, I have explained, tabernacle/house/building.

I have explained the phrase "kingdom of heaven" or "the kingdom of heaven nigh at hand" in the Parable of the Mustard Seed

As you study the above words and phrases in the documents mentioned, I hope that you will be able to see that the aspect of heaven in this document, takes place within the "chambers of your mind" - in otherwords, your brain.

So now let us deal with the "spiritual" aspect of where is hell.

Well it only stands to reason, if heaven or the kingdom of heaven are the presence of the Lord in your mind, then "hell" is the very opposite, which is the absence of the Lord in your mind.

Let us take a look again at the scripture in -

Gen.4:16 - And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.

I have explained the phrase "went out from the presence of the LORD," in Mark of the Beast--666, but just to briefly explain, it means, that Cain chose to no longer walk with the Lord, or follow the Lord's ways.

The Lord drove Cain out from the face of the earth; and from thy (the Lord's) face shall I (Cain) be hid; - Gen.4:14

Adam and the woman, Eve, were likewise driven out of the garden of Eden, - Gen. 3:20-24, because they disobeyed the one and only commandment they had been given.

Gen.2:16-17 - And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: (17) But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

And the woman (Eve) knew and understood the Lord's commandment that had been given to Adam very well, as we see in the conversation she has with the serpent in -

Gen.3:2-3 - And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: (3) But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

Now the difference between Adam and Eve being driven from the garden and Cain being driven from the garden, or the face of the earth, is that Adam and Eve thereafter tried to follow the ways of the Lord; Cain did not even want to try, he wanted to do his own thing -- follow his own ways or path, and not the ways of the Lord. And so it is to this day, if you follow your own ways or your own path, you are not walking with the Lord.

You cannot be in reality, or "spiritually," in heaven and hell at the same time, there is a great gulf between them - you may be able to see one from the other, but you cannot be in both places at the same time. Neither can you follow the ways of the Lord, and follow your own ways which do not include the Lord, you can do one or the other, but you cannot do both at the same time. You chose which way is more important to you, follow the Lord and his ways, or follow your own ways - the decision is yours. - See - Ten Commandments; The Two Great Commandments; Fountains of Living Waters vs. Cisterns; Furnace of Fire/Lake of Fire

Let us take a quick look at the story of the rich man and Lazarus, I will not go into the whole story, but let me give you a couple of scripture beginning with -

Luke 16:25-26 - But Abraham said, Son remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but not he is comforted, and thou art tormented. (26) And besides all this, between us and you there is a great fixed gulf: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that [would come] from thence. - Please read Luke 16:19-31 for yourself.

great fixed gulf: - Luke 16:26

II Thes. 1:9 - Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power. - See - Furnace of Fire/Lake of Fire

Did you see and understand that? those who do not follow the Lord's ways shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord.

* * * *

Now, just for a moment, let us take a look at what the Bible says about ascending to heaven," but I will not go into a lot of detail

In Hebrews, chapter 2, again, we see that there are different levels when we read that Jesus was made a little lower than the angels when he became the begotten Son of God and was born of the virgin Mary as let us take a look at the scripture.

Matt.1:16 & 20-21 - And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ. (20) But while he (Joseph) thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her (Mary) is of the Holy Ghost. (21) And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

John 1:14 - And the Word (Jesus) was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Heb.2:7-9 - Thou (God) madest him (Jesus) a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy (God's) hands: (8) Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him. (9) But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

John 3:13 - And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, [even] the Son of man which is in heaven. See - Prov.30:4 and John 6:26-31, I will begin with

John 6:32-40 - Then Jesus said unto them, (the multitude of people,) verily, verily I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. (33) For the bread of God is he (Jesus) which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. (34) Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. (35) And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me (Jesus) shall never thirst (36) All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. (38) For I (Jesus) came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. (39) And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. (40) And this is the will of him (God) that sent me, (Jesus), that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. - See - Meat of God or Bread of Life; Famine / Hunger

every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: - John 6:40

John 4:14 - But whosoever drinketh of the water that I Jesus shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. - See - Fountain of Living Waters vs. Cisterns

John 16:28 - I (Jesus) came forth from the father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.

Acts 2:34-35 - For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he (David) saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, (35) Until I (The LORD) make thy foe thy footstool. - See - Ps. 110:1; Matt. 22:44

Now we can see from the above scripture, that the only one to ascend to heaven is the one who came down from heaven - Jesus.

But this does not mean that in the last days, we will be going up to heaven to live with God, because Jesus is returning to earth at the last trumpet blown, to rule and reign for a thousand years, and those who make it into the first resurrection will also rule and reign with him (Jesus) for a thousand years. - See - Judgment, First Resurrection and The Second Death.

Now some may ask - Well, what happens when you die if you do not go to heaven?

We know that Adam was made or formed, from the dust of the ground and God breathed into his nostrils and gave him life, and he became a living spirit - a human being - of flesh, bone and blood, etc.

Gen.2:7 - And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul, (spirit).

And we see in the scripture below that your body returns to the dust of the earth and your spirit return to God who gave it, but it does not mean that you become an angel, or any other celestial (or, heavenly) being, or body.

Ps.146:4 - His breath (spirit,) goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.

His breath (spirit) goeth forth - where? We see in the next scripture.

Eccl.12:6-7 - Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern. (7) Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

As I explained in the scripture above -

I Cor.15:39-40 - All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds. (40) There are also celestrial (heavenly) bodies, and bodies terrestrial (earthly): but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.

I Cor.15:38 - But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body. Please read all of chapter 15 for yourself

The Bible tells us that we go to sleep, or, we are in a resting period until the appropriate time, as we see in -

I Cor. 15:51-52 - Behold, I (Paul) shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, (52) In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. - Please read the story The Valley of Dry Bones in Ezekel 37 for yourself, until I have time to type it on my web page.

I Thes.4:15-17 - For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive [and] remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent (or, precede) them which are asleep. (16) For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with a trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: (17) Then we which are alive [and] remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. - See - Judgment, The First Resurrection and The Second Death

In Revelation 6:9, when the fifth seal is opened, John sees under the alter the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: In verse 10,the voices cry out and ask - How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? In verse 11, they are given white robes and they were told that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.

So you can see that while your spirit has returned to God in heaven, it is just resting, or, waiting for the time when Jesus will return to earth, and he will return to earth when the 7th trumpet is blown. But you need to understand the story The Valley of Dry Bones found in Ezekiel 37. Also read Revelation chapter 21 for yourself.

I have actually gone into the second half a little more than I originally planned. I only intended to show you where the "spiritual" heaven and hell are, while you are yet living here on earth.

This document is not meant to give you all the answers, it is only meant to help you see and understand words and phrases so that you will have a better understanding of your Bible. Please do not e-mail me and ask about the other levels of heaven, you will need to read and study these for yourself. You are responsible for working out your own salvation with the Lord.
