PARABLES AND WORDS OF THE LORD

The parable explained in this Lord's word bible study document is, Parables and Words of the Lord. Parables are often used to explain the stories or scriptures, the meaning of a parable is: a story, a proverb, a comparison, or comparing one thing with another, a similitude, in both the old and the new testament - see definition below. The Lord's words and sayings are true, as shown by many of the verses quoted in the documents or pages I have put on this site.

The meaning of a parable is:- a story, a proverb, a comparison, or comparing one thing with another, a similitude, in both the old and the new testament.

So why did Jesus teach in parables?

There are probably a number of reasons. It is most likely that many of the people at that time had very little schooling, and therefore could not read or write. Probably the only ones who could read and/or write with any great degree, were the Pharisees and the scribes.

Often when Jesus is speaking with the people in parables, he is telling them how to enter the kingdom of heaven/the kingdom of God.

Let us begin this Bible study with a prayer, O God, thy heavenly Father, grant me the wisdom and knowledge, so that I may be able to understand this document, in Jesus name. Amen.

At the beginning of Matthew chapter 13, we find Jesus sitting by the sea side and a great multitude gathered together, so many, that in order for all to hear him, he went onto a ship and spoke to them from the ship. Please note the parable that he told them was the parable of the sower and when he was finished, the disciples asked him, why do you speak to them in parables.

Now let us turn to -

Matt.13:10-13 & 15 - And the disciples came, and said unto him, (Jesus), Why speakest thou unto them in parables?

Matt.13:11 - He (Jesus) answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you (the disciples) to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them (the people) it is not given.

Because it is given unto you (the disciples) to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them (the people) it is not given. - Matt.13:11

Matt.11:25 - At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes See - I Cor.1:27; I Cor.2:7-8, 10

Matt.16:17 - And Jesus answered and said unto him, blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed [it] unto thee, but my father which is in heaven. - See - Eph.2:8

Mark 4:11 - And he (Jesus) said unto them, Unto you (the disciples) it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them (the people) that are without, all these things are done in parables:

I Cor.1:27 - But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

I Cor.2:7-8, 10 - But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, [even] the hidden [wisdom,] which God ordained before the world unto our glory; (8) Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known [it,] they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. (10) But God hath revealed [them] unto us by his spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

of the princes #758 - N.T. - present participle of #757 - AV - ruler, prince, chief, magistrate, chief ruler - 1) a ruler, commander, chief, leader - found 37 times

present participle of #757 - N.T. - a primary word - AV rule over, reign over - 1) to be chief, to lead, to rule - found twice - Mark 10:42 and Rom.15:12

So "the princes" of this world referred to here would be the priests, since they are the ones responsible for Jesus being crucified. Yes, it was the Romans who carried it out, but it was the Jewish priests who wanted him to be crucified. But we are not to hate or despise the Jewish people, because in the end time, we will all come together, as you will see a bit later.

II Cor.3:14 - But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same veil untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which [vail] is done away in Christ. - See Is.6:10; John 12:40

It is important that you know and understand the word "vail" or "veil," without which you will not be able to understand this document - why Jesus spoke to the people in parables.

Let us take a moment to see what is meant by the word -

vail #2571 - N.T. - from #2572 - AV - vail, 1) a veil, covering

from #2572 - N.T. - akin to #2813 and #2928 - AV - cover, hide, 1) to hide, veil, 1a) to hinder the knowledge of a thing

akin to #2813 - N.T. - a primary verb - AV - steal - 1b) take away by theft i.e. take away by stealth {Webster's dictionary - "stealth" n secret means used to accomplish anything}

also akin to #2928 - N.T. - a primary verb - AV - hide, hide (one's) self, keep secret, secretly, hidden - 1) to hide, conceal, to be hid; 3) metaph. to conceal (that it may not become known)

vail #4541 - O.T. - from #5258 - AV image, molten, covering, vail - 2) web, covering, veil, woven stuff

from #5258 - O.T. - a primitave root - AV - pour out, pour, cover, offer, melteth, molten, set, set up -

So that we can see the definition of vail (or, veil) is -covering, to hide, veil, to hinder the knowledge of a thing, to keep secret, to conceal (that it may not become known), web, woven stuff. Let me repeat part of this meaning of the word "vail or veil," as it is very important for you to understand, it is to hide, to hinder the knowledge of a thing; to keep secret; metaph. to conceal (that it may not become known)

I John 2:27 - But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abode in him (or, it) - See - Jer.31:33

Col.1:26 - [Even] the mystery which hath been hid from ages and generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:

Eph.2:8 - For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God: - See John 6:44

Is.6:10 - Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.

"of this people" - nation, kinsman, kindred - see definition below

John 12:40 - He (the Lord) hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; (or, mind), that they should not see with [their] eyes, or understand with [their] heart, and be converted, and I should heal them

Jer.31:33 - But this [shall be] the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Heb.8:10 - For this [is] the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their minds, and write them in (or, upon) their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

"After those days" meaning the end times, or the last days - when Jesus returns and he rules and reigns the earth for a thousand years without the influence of Satan and his evil ones to lead us astray. That is when every person will hear, see and understand God during this period of time - read Jer.31:33 above again, also, read Revelation chapter 20.

[it is] the gift of God - Eph.2:8

John 6:44 - And this is the will of him (God) that sent me,(Jesus), that every one which seeth the son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I (Jesus) will raise him up at the last days. - See - John 4:14

John 4:14 - But whosoever drinketh of the water that I (Jesus) shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I (Jesus) shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. - See - fountain of Living Waters vs. Cisterns

Let me sum up the meaning for Matt.3:11 - The Lord God has not only hid the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven from the wise and prudent people - Matt.11:25, but their minds were blinded - II Cor.3:14, he blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts so they could not see or understand lest they be converted and Jesus would heal them - Is.6:10 & Heb.12:40. Because flesh and blood has not revealed the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven to us, but God the Father who is in heaven - Matt.16:17

But God has made a covenant with the house of Israel, after those days (meaning the end times) he will put his laws in the hearts and minds of the people and he will be our God and we will be his people - Jer.31:33 & Heb.8:10. For by grace we are saved through faith and not of ourselves - it is "a gift of God" - Eph.2:8, and this is the will, or gift, of God, that every one which seeth the Son and believeth on him my have everlasting life, and Jesus will raise them (or,us) up in the last days, - John 6:44, and whosever drinketh of the water (the words) which Jesus shall give us we shall never thirst because we will be fed with his words and knowledge and have everlasting life - John 4:14

Let me continue with -

Matt.13:12 - For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.

I Cor.15:10 - But by the grace of God I (Paul) am what I am: and his grace which [was bestowed] upon me was not in vain; but I (Paul) laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not, I, but the grace of God (or, the strength of God) which was with me. - Red - II Cor.11:23-33

The "fruit of the Spirit," are the things which Jesus taught and the basis of many of the scripture throughout the entire Bible. You will also need to understand of the Parable of the Sower

John 15:5-6 - I (Jesus) am the vine, ye (you) are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I (Jesus) in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. (6) If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them and cast [them] into the fire, and they are burned.

They are called "thorns," and "briers," and are rejected in the end, or, burned in the fire, as we saw in John 15:6 above and in the next verse below (this is a "spiritual" fire,) - these are the "bad" qualities or characteristics which people follow and are called the works of the flesh - see - Heb.6:8 above.

Matt.7:16-20 - Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? (17) Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. (18) A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. (19) Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. (20) Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. See - Parable of the Fruit - Tree of Life; Furnace of Fire/Lake of Fire and Brimstone; and Parable of the Kingdom and Sower - Part I (for more information on the Wicked One.

Let us also look at -

Luke 6:43 -45 - For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. (44) For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes. (45) A good man out of the good treasure of his heart (or, mind,) bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart (or, mind,) his mouth speaketh.

II Cor.5:20 - Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as through God did beseech [you] by us: we pray [you] in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. - Matt.15:13

John 15:2 - Every branch in me (Jesus) that bearth not fruit he taketh away: and every [branch] that beareth fruit he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. - See - The True Vine; The Grass, The Branch(es) and The Vine

To understand what the meaning of the word "fruit" is, please read - Parable of the Fruit--Tree of Life.

I Cor.3:9-16 - For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building. (10) According to the grace of God which was given unto me, (Paul) as a wise masterbuilder, I (Paul) have laid the foundation, and another buildeth theron. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. (11) For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. (12) Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; (13) Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. (14) If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. (15) If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. (16) Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and [that] the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? - See - Temples of God; The Husband and The Bride--The Kingdom of God

shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire - I Cor.3:13

I Peter 1:7 - That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

yet so as by fire - I Cor.3:15

Jude 23 - And others save with fear, pulling [them] out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

That is - the "works of the flesh," or the ways of Satan and the evil ones.

Let me sum up the meaning of Matt.13:12 -

The overall meaning of this verse is - every body must repent of the ways of the flesh, and work to bring "good fruit," to the Lord - the more you repent and overcome and conquer of the ways of the flesh and bring good fruit or character to the Lord, and the more you study, the more knowledge and understanding the Lord will give unto you. If you do not study and bring "good fruit," to the Lord, he will take away what you thought you knew and understood and he will burn or destroy your spirit - John 15:2; Matt.15:13; Heb.6:8. For every persons work will be manifested, for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every person's work of what sort it is - I Cor.3:13

It is important for you to know that every person's works will be judged. Are you doing the works of the flesh? or, the fruits of the Spirit?

Rev.20:12-13 - And I (John) saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is [the book] of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. (13) And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell (Gr., Hades, or, the grave - the resting place) delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

Matt.10:33 - But whosoever shall deny me (Jesus) before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

Now let me show you that the Lord is fire -

Is.66:15-16 - For behold, the LORD will come with fire, and with his chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire. (16) For by fire and by his sword will the LORD plead with all flesh: and the slain of the LORD shall be many - See - Sword of the Spirit--Word of God

like a whirlwind #5492 - O.T. - from #5486 - AV - whirlwind, storm, Red sea, tempest - 1) storm-wind - found in: - Num.21:14; Job 21:18; 27:20; 37:9; Ps.83:15; Prov.1:27; 10:25; Is.5:28; 17:13; 21:1; 29:6; 66:15; Jer.4:13; Hosea 8:7; Amos 1:14; Nah.1:3

from #5486 - O.T. - a primitive root - AV - consume, utterly, have an end, perish - 1) to cease, come to an end - found in: - Est.9:28; Ps.73:19; Is.66:17; Jer.8:13; Amos 3:15; Zeph.1:2, 3 (twice)

Luke 12:49 - I (Jesus) am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled?

Heb.12:29 - For our God [is] a consuming fire.

Heb.10:27 - But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. (the enemy, the wicked ones, the devil, etc.,) - See - Parable of the Kingdom and the Sower Scriptural Definitions

II Thes.1:7-9 - And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, (8) In flaming fire taking vengenance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. (9) Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

Now let me continue with -

Matt.13:13-14 - Therefore speak I (Jesus) to them (the people) in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. (14) And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaisa, which saith, By hearing he shall near, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: - Read - Is.6:9-10; Ezek.12:2; Mark 4:12; Luke 8:10; John 12:40; Acts 28:17-29; Rom.11:8

Jesus is referring to the Jewish people. - Even though Jesus is referring to the Jewish people at the time these parables were spoken, there are many nations/people/sects/denominations today, who do not understand the parables of the Lord, and so it is referring to all of us, because we are all of one blood. If you could trace the blood line back far enough, you would see that we all came from the blood line of Adam and Eve. Please see the definition of "people" above and below.

II Cor.3:12-16 - Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech: (13) And not as Moses, [which] put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished (14) But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same veil untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which [veil] is done away in Christ - {See Is.6:10; John 12:40;} - verse (15) But even unto this day, when Moses is read, (the books of Moses) the veil is upon their heart (or, mind) (16) Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the veil shall be taken away.

[which] put a vail over his face - II Cor.3:13

It is important that you read Exodus 34:29-35 for yourself, I will give you a brief overview of what this is about.

When Moses and the Israelite people were being led around in the wilderness, or desert, God tried to speak to the people directly, but this frightened the people, and so they asked Moses to go to God and bring the message to them. So Moses went up into the mountain to get the message from God and when he came back down with the message, the face of Moses was shining and this too, frightened the people, so Moses put a vail over his face while he delivered the message. So the people did not want to hear the message from God, regardless of whether it came from God himself, or whether the message was delivered to them by Moses - the people did not want to hear the message. However, the Jewish people can put an end to this.

end of that which is abolished - II Cor.3:13

Rom.10:4-13 - For Christ [is] the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. (5) For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them. (6) But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down [from above:]) (7) Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) (8) But what saith it? The word is night thee, [even] in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; (9) That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart (or, mind) that God hath raised him (Jesus) from the dead, thou shalt be saved (10) For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (11) For the scriptures saith, Whosoever believeth on him (Jesus) shall not be ashamed. (12) For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. (13) For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord (Jesus) shall be saved

Please finish reading all of Romans, chapter 10 for yourself.

Now let us continue with -

II Cor. 3:15-18 - But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the veil is upon their heart. (or, mind) (16) Nevertheless, when it (the people) shall turn to the Lord, the veil shall be taken away. (17) Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord [is,] there is liberty. (or, freedom) (18) But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, [even] as by the Spirit of the Lord.

when it shall turn to the Lord - II Cor.3:15

The word "it" above refers to the people, or more specifically, the minds of the people.

Rom.11:23 - And they also, if they (the Jewish people) abide not still in unbelief, shall be grafted in: for God is able to graff them (the Jewish people) in again. - See - Parable of the Good Shepherd

Eph.2:8 - For by grace (or, God's strength) are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God:

Again, let me repeat part of this meaning of the word "vail or veil," as it is very important for you to understand, it is - to hide, to keep secret, to hinder the knowledge of a thing. For the complete definition, please refer above.

the veil shall be taken away - II Cor.3:16

I have documented all the phrases and/or words in Is.25:7 so that you can see the importance of the vail (or, veil), who it covers and what God is going to do when the time comes - the end times.

God will destroy from before his face the covering or the "vail" that been wrapped tightly over all the nations - all the people, which hinders the people from actually seeing and hearing what the Lord has given to us in the bible, because it is kept secret, hidden or woven in.

Let me continue with: - the vail shall be taken away- II Cor.3:16

Eph.1:17 - That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

Eph.4:18 - Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness (or, hardness) of their heart, (or, mind):

Many people know and believe in God, but, do they know and believe in his son, Jesus Christ, that he came in the flesh, lived a righteous life on earth, overcame or gained the victory over the devil/Satan, and died for us to take away the sins of the world - the lusts of the flesh. Read this again, as it is important for you to understand before you read the summing up of Matt.13:13-14 below.

Okay, before I sum up the meaning below, let me again repeat part of the meaning of the word "vail or veil," as it is very important for you to understand, it is - to hide, to hinder the knowledge of a thing, to keep secret, metaph. to conceal (that it may not become known). For the complete definition, please see above.

Now I will sum up Matt.13:13-14 - Jesus says he speaks to the people in parables because in seeing they see not and in hearing they hear not because their minds (the minds of the Jewish people) are blinded by the reading of the old testament, but the "veil," (the secret, or the concealing of the message of the Old Testament) has been done away in Christ - II Cor.3:14, but until the people come to accept that Jesus was the Son of God and that he came to take away the sins of the people they will not be graffed in, but God is able to graff them (the unbelievers) in again, when, they believe in Jesus Christ - Rom.11:23. All things are revealed to us by God the Father which is in heaven, Matt.16:17 - that the Father of glory, may give unto us the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him, - Eph.1:17

I John 4:2-3 - Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: (3) And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is the spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. - See - Antichrist

So the understanding of the people is darkened being alienated from the life of God through ignorance, because of the blindness or hardness of their heart, (or, mind), - Eph.4:18. But the Jewish people, will be graffed in during the end times - See - Parable of the Good Shepherd.

It may be, that all will be graffed in during the thousand year reign of Jesus Christ on earth, because Satan and the evil ones will not be able to influence the people and lead them astray, or away from God. Whether it is because of ignorance, the blindness, or hardness of their hearts (or, minds), any person who did not believe in Jesus Christ before the thousand year reign of Jesus will then be able to see and hear the word of God during this time.

Let us continue with -

Matt.13:15 - For this people's (unbelievers) heart (mind) is waxed gross, and [their] ears are dull of hearing, and the eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with [their] eyes, and hear with [their] ears, and they should understand with [their] heart, (their mind or sole), and should be converted, and I should heal them.

ears are dull of hearing - Matt.13:15

Heb.5:11 - Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing - See - Christ, Our High Priest After the Order of Melchisedic/Melchisedek

Matt.13:16 - But blessed are your (the disciples) eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.

blessed are your eyes, for they see: - Matt.13:16

Matt.13:16-17 - And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. (17) - And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed [it] unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

The "it" is refering to what was said to Jesus regarding a question as to who Jesus was.

Again in the following verses in Luke, when Jesus was alone with the disciples, Jesus asked Peter who he was, and this transpired between Peter and Jesus.

Luke 10:20-24 - He (Jesus) said unto them, (the disciples), But whom say ye that I am? Peter answering said, The Christ of God. (21) And he (Jesus) straitly charged them, (the disciples), and commanded [them] to tell no man that thing: (22) Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day. (23) And he (Jesus) said to [them] all, If any [man] will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. (24) For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.

John 20:29 - Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed [are] they that have not seen, and [yet] have believed.

So even though the disciples knew that Jesus was the Son of God, Jesus gave them strict orders they were not to tell any body because Jesus knew that God the Father had sent him, the Son of God, to us, so that he could be crucified for our sins. When Jesus returns again, the Jews, as well as many more people will believe this time, the "vail," or the covering will be removed from the eyes and the ears of the people, and the people will then be able to see and understand and they will be graffed in - the house of Judah and the house of Israel will be together. - See Parable of the Good Shepherd.

Matt.13:17 - For verily I (Jesus) say unto you, That many prophets and righteous [men] have desired to see [those things] which ye see, and have not seen [them]; and to hear [those things] which ye hear, and have not heard [them.]

prophets and righteous [men] have desired to see [those things] which ye see, - Matt.13:17

Heb.11:13 - These all died in (or, according to) faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of [them,] and embraced [them] and confessed that they were strangers, and pilgrims on the earth.

I Peter 1:10 - Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace [that should come] unto you: - Read - Gen.49:10; Dan.2:44; Hag.2:7; Zech.6:12 - then see - The Root or Stem of Jesse--A Righteous Branch/Holy One

In most parables, Jesus is trying to tell us what we must do in order to enter the kingdom of heaven/kingdom of God. You cannot enter the "spiritual," kingdom of heaven/kingdom of God if you do not accept and believe in your heart (or, your mind) the Son of God - Jesus Christ - that he lived a righteous life on earth, overcame or gained the victory over the devil/Satan, died for our sins and was resurrected on the third day and now sits at the right hand of God until his return to earth. You likewise, must overcome and conquer doing the works of the flesh - the works of Satan. To know and understand where the "spiritual" kingdom of heaven is, please see The Foundations of Heaven and Earth

Please notice the scripture which comes before Matt.13:10-17 and that which follows - both are the parable of the sower, the second one explains the first one. One must have a very clear understanding of the Parable of The Sower, and/or the Parable of The Kingdom and The Sower, as well, the Parable of Talents--Not Every Body Shall Enter The Kingdom of Heaven. All of these documents can be found on my site.

Then Jesus goes on to tell them the Parable of The Mustard Seed and the Parable of The Tares of The Field, and have been explained, and found on my site.

Jesus often said "he that hath ears to hear, let him hear."

In Mark 4:10-12 - Again Jesus explains to his disciples why he speaks in parables to the people, as they (the people) were able to hear it. From there he tells them the parable of the sower and a few other parables,

Mark 4:34 - But without a parable spake he (Jesus) not unto them (the people): and when they were alone, he (Jesus) expounded all things to his disciples.

John 16:25 - These things have I (Jesus) spoken unto you in proverbs [or parables]: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father.

In the above scripture, John 16:25, Jesus says there will come a time when he will no longer speak to the people in proverbs, (or, parables) - this will be when Jesus returns for the thousand year reign on earth, when all will be able to see and hear the message of the Lord. But this does not mean that we should just give up now and say I will understand it someday, but we must all study and work and strive to overcome the works of the flesh, because we will be judged according to our works.

John 17:17 - Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

Ps.78:1-7 - Give ear, O my people, [to] my laws: incline your ears to the words of my mouth. (2) I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old: (3) - Which we have heard and know, and our fathers have told us. (4) We will not hide [them] from the children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done. (5) For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children: (6) That the generation to come might know [them even] the children [which] should be born; [who] should arise and declare [them] to their children: (7) That they might set their hopes in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:

You can continue reading Ps.78, but keep in mind that when it speaks of Israel it is not referring to the country as we know Israel today, but the tribes of Israel spoken of in Genesis. Likewise, Ephramim is one of the tribes of Israel.

John 15:20 - Remember the word that I (Jesus) said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep your also.

Our Works

Is.6:10 - Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.

If all the people heard, understood, repented of the ways of the flesh and followed the fruits of the Spirit and lived a righteous life as Jesus did, then there would be a great many people who would be able to rule and reign with Jesus during the thousand year reign, but God has made the heart (or, the mind) of the people fat (that is, doing their own thing) and has made their ears heavy and shut their eyes, so there will not be several million of people to rule and reign with Christ. - See - Heir and Joint-Heir With Christ.

Don't forget it started all the way back to Adam and the woman, (Eve) who disobeyed God. They were told not to eat of the fruit of good and evil, but they did, and even though they repented, God was angry with them and punished them by removing them from the garden of Eden. But since then, the people have fallen down again and again, and so God has allowing us to do our own thing for about six thousand years and then he will once again open our ears, and our hearts, (or, minds) of every body and write the laws or the ten commandments in our foreheads. See - Ten Commandments. But in the meantime, it is up to each individual to strive to follow the ways of the Lord, and do the fruits of the Spirit and keep the ten commandments. But until Jesus returns many do not want to follow the ways of the Lord, they want to do their own thing, but you will be judged according to your works. See - Our Works, above.

NUMBER OF PARABLES IN THE BIBLE

For the person who asked me how many parables there were in the Bible. In the back of my Bible, it lists the parables.

In the Old Testament - there appear to be 20 and then it says for other parables see - and it gives two other books of the Bible to look up with several chapters and verses, for another possible 6 parables. (I did not look these up to be sure of the count.)

In the New Testament the list of parables is much longer.

There are 7 other passages sometimes designated as parables found in Matthew, Mark or Luke.

INDEX

This document is meant to help you understand your Bible more easily, however, it may not give you all the answers, you will need to study your Bible as well as read other documents, but let no one deceive you, prove all things; hold fast that which is good, because, ultimately, you, are responsible for your own salvation.
