PARABLE OF THE SOWER - Mark and Luke

The parable explained in this Lord's word Bible study document is, Parable of the Sower. This document has the Mark version, followed by the Luke version. I will show you the seed is the word of God and Jesus is the sower. The parable of the sower is quite important, if you can understand this document then try reading The Parable of the Kingdom and Sower, it is the same story with more added to it. You may need to print a copy of Parable of the Kingdom and Sower Scripture Definitions, as it may be helpful when reading both of these document.

Let us begin this Bible study with a prayer, O God, thy heavenly Father, grant me the wisdom and knowledge, so that I may be able to understand this document, in Jesus name. Amen.

PARABLE OF THE SOWER - Mark

Let me begin by saying that the word of God is not sown in the the ground, that is just a similie so that the people of that day could understand what Jesus was talking about, because it is not going to do any good to sow God's word in the ground

Mark 4:3 - Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow:

Mark 4:14 - The sower soweth the word - the fruit of the Spirit, is what Jesus is trying to teach us.

The sower is Jesus. And he (Jesus) sows the word of God - the fruit of the Spirit, see list below.

Mark 4:4 - And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up.

Mark 4:15 - And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.

REMEMBER: Satan, the devil, the wicked one, evil one, the son of perdition - as well as a few other names that he is referred to -- ...is the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Eph. 2:2

So in this case -- ...the fowl of the air came and devoured it up -- is Satan. Mark4:4 & 15

Mark 4:5 - And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth:

Mark 4:16 - And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness;

Mark 4:6 - But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.

Mark 4:17-19 - And having no root in themselves, and so endured but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended.

In other words - they studied the word, but because they did not stick with it, and/or when troubles come along, or persecution for believing in God arises, they become offended or afraid and their faith dwindles; and being faithful to God and following his commandments is not as important to them as following their own ways or being rich or any other vain things. See - Iniquity and Vanity

Mark4:7 - And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.

Mark 4:18-19 - And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word (19) And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful. - See - Parable of the Dishonest Steward - Mammon or Riches; Fountain of Living Waters vs. Cisterns; also, Parable of the Fruit - Tree of Life.

The word "thorns," are evil spirits or undesirable characteristics which are to be rejected and that will be burned in the end - see Heb.6:8

The word "fruit" - is referring to the "fruits of the Spirit," found in Gal.5:22-23, or see below.

If we walk in the Spirit, then you will not fulfil the lusts of the flesh - Gal.5:16, because the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh - they are contrary to one another, Gal.5:16-17, so you must always be on guard and not do the works of the flesh. The works of the flesh can be found in Gal.5:19-21, or see below.

The fruits of the Spirit The works of the flesh

love - non sexual adultery joy fornication peace uncleanness longsuffering lasciviousness gentleness idolatry goodness witchcraft faith hatred meekness variance temperance emulations wrath strife seditions heresies envyings murder drunkness revellings
This is the "good fruit" This is the "bad fruit"
or good tree/"the tree or bad tree
of life"

Do the above things and you will	Doing these things you will not
inherit the kingdom of God/ inherit the kingdom of God/kingdom
kingdom of heaven of heaven

The "fruit of the Spirit," are the things which Jesus taught and basis of many of the scripture throughout the entire Bible.

If you do not understand what some of the above words mean in "biblical terms," please look them up in a concordance. You can use the Bible Tools found on my index page, if you do not have a concordance.

If you live in the Spirit let us also walk in the Spirit - See - Parable of the Fruit--Tree of Life

walk in the Spirit - Gal.5:16

Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. - Rom.6:12; That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man (or, person) which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man (or, person), which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. - Eph.4:22-24

Let me show you that we, as humans or, people are referred to as "trees" in the Bible, in fact we are each made up of many trees, we are also called "stones," and "branches" throughout the Bible). For example -

Matt.3:10 - And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn (cut) down, and cast into the fire: (that is, "spiritual" fire)

When John the Baptist was baptizing the people the Sadducees and the Pharisees also came to be baptized and John the Baptist said to them, ... O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bring forth therefore fruits meet (or, suitable) for repentance: - Matt.3:7-8

In otherwords, John the Baptist knew the Sadducees and the Pharisees had no intention of changing their ways, and that is what the baptism of John the Baptist was all about - repentance - the changing of your ways - the giving up of the ways, of the works of the flesh.

Let us look at this next scripture - I (John the Baptist) indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he (Jesus) that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he (Jesus) shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and [with] fire: ("spiritual fire") - Matt.3:11

"Spiritual fire" has been explained in Furnace of Fire/Lake of Fire and Brimstone; Born Again (or, From Above)

It is the "works of the flesh," that we must strive to overcome, to conquer or to gain the victory, (these words and/or phrases have been thoroughly explained in the document, Four Horses of Revelation.) You see, with the help and strength of Jesus Christ, he will purge the works of the flesh from you, and you can overcome these works - you can conquer, and you can gain the victory over the works of the flesh, and then you can enter the kingdom of God/kingdom of heaven. The works of the flesh are not allowed in the kingdom of God/kingdom of heaven. By conquering and overcoming the works of the flesh, you become a "new creature" - new person. And pray for the peace of Jerusalem - the "new city," (this has been explained in the document, Fountain of Living Waters vs. Cisterns; Born Again (or, From Above)

To enter the kingdom of heaven - you need to overcome the works of the flesh and strive to do the fruits of the Spirit and keep the commandments of God, as well as believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, born of a woman, was crucified for our sins, resurrected on the third day and now sits on the right hand of God waiting to return, if you believe this, and do fruit of the Spirit and keep the commandments of God, all of them and do not deny him, then you will inherit all things - the kingdom of God/kingdom of heaven.

Mark 4:8 - And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred.

Mark 4:20 - And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive [it] and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred. See - Parable of the Fruit - Tree of Life.

These people heard and understood what the word of the Lord is all about, to bring forth the fruit of the Spirit and to spread the word to others so that they may also bring forth fruit and be allowed to enter the kingdom of God/kingdom of heaven.

Mark 4:9 - And he (Jesus) said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

I have explained the Parable of the Sower and given you a good base in understanding the Bible, I could have gone further, but you can find much of the information in the other documents on my site to help you. If you do not have a good understanding of this parable, you will have difficulty understanding the Bible - it is a very important parable.

Much of this will be repeated in the Luke or Matthew version, however, there may be some variation, but the basis of the parable will still be the same.

PARABLE OF THE SOWER - Luke

Jesus tells the multitude, then the disciples ask him what this means, so I will show you what Jesus said to the multitude and then his explanation. Please refer to the Mark version above if necessary for some further explanation, as the same information applies in the Luke version, you might also look at the Parable of the Kingdom and Sower, the Matthew version.

Luke 8:5 - A sower went out to sow his seed: ....; (which is the fruit of the Spirit, Gal.5:22-23, and the commandments of God, Matt.19:17; John 14:15; I John 2:3-6; 3:22-24; 5:2-4; Rev.14:12

And Satan/devil/dragon, will do anything he can to make you stumble and fall, but it is up to you to overcome Satan and his ways - the works of the flesh. - Gal.5:19-2. Let us look at Rev.12:17 - And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Let me explain some of the words in the above scripture -

The "woman," - is the "church"

And the "church," - is "you," - see - Temples of God--Churches, because a church/building, cannot keep the commandment of God, only people.

Luke 8:11 - Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. - the fruit of the Spirit

The sower is Jesus, and he sowed the fruits of the Spirit

Luke 8:5 - ...and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it. (In this case, the fowls of the air are evil spirits, the wicked ones - the devil and his followers.)

Luke 8:12 - Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, (or, minds) lest they should believe and be saved. - See - Tares

Luke 8:6 - And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture.

Luke 8:13 - They on the rock [are they,] which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have not root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.

Remember:- Jesus is our rock - our corner stone, so when some fell upon a rock, it means that some fell on people who started out following the ways of Jesus, but when times of trouble and temptation came along, they had no stamina, no endurance and did not continue in the ways of the Lord Jesus - the ways of "the fruit of the Spirit," - see list above in Mark version.

Luke 8:7 - And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it.

Luke 8:14 - And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of [this] life, and bring no fruit to perfection. See - Parable of the Fruit - Tree of Life

The word "thorns," are evil spirits or undesirable characteristics which are to be rejected and that will be burned in the end - see Heb.6:8

The "pleasures of [this] life," are the works of the flesh - see list above in Mark version.

The word "fruit" - is referring to the "fruits of the Spirit," found in Gal.5:22-23, or see list above in the Mark version.

Luke 8:8 - And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold....

Luke 8:15 - But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep [it,] and bring forth fruit and patience - See - Parable of the Fruit--Tree of Life.

These people heard and understood what the word of the Lord is all about, to bring forth the fruit of the Spirit and to spread the word to others so that they may also bring forth fruit and be allowed to enter the kingdom of God/kingdom of heaven.

Luke 8:8 - ... And when he (Jesus) had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Luke 8:18 - Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have (or, thinketh that he hath.) - See - Parables and Words of the Lord

I have explained the Parable of the Sower and given you a good base in understanding the Bible, I could have gone further, but you can find much of the information in the other documents on my site to help you. If you do not have a good understanding of this parable, you will have difficulty understanding the Bible - it is a very important parable. You may have to read the Mark version as well as the Parable of the Kingdom and the Sower - Matthew version, some information may not be in all of the versions, as I would just be repeating myself too much.

This document is meant to help you understand your Bible more easily, however, it may not give you all the answers, you will need to study your Bible as well as read other documents, but let no one deceive you, prove all things; hold fast that which is good, because, ultimately, you, are responsible for your own salvation.

Let us end this Bible study with a prayer - O God thy heavenly Father, please help me to be a better person each day, to follow the commandments, and help me to strive each day to be more in thy presence, in Jesus name I ask. Amen.
