SINS OF THE TONGUE, OR SPEECH

The sins of the tongue goes along with the documents entitled What Defiles a Person as well as Spiritual Gifts of God and One Christ--Many Members. Also in the near future there will be a document entitled God's Discipline. I will use James 3 and use other scripture throughout the Bible to explain this document.

This document will show you that our "tongue," which helps us to make and form speech, is the one member which causes so much unhappiness for ourselves and others, and is one of the things which will condemn us. What you say, all can hear, people, God, as well as evil spirits, but what you think, God hears - so to, do the evil spirits. So be careful what you think and what you say, and that includes what you pray for.

All text taken from the King James Bible

James 3:1 - My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation (or judgment).

be not many masters - don't think of yourself as being above others or more important than somebody else.

Matt.23:8 - But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, [even] Christ; and all ye are brethren.

that we shall receive the greater condemnation (or judgment) -

Luke 6:37 - Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

your Father - your heavenly Father

Matt.23:9 - And call no [man] your father upon earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. See - The Lord's Prayer

James 3:2 - For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same [is] a perfect man (person), [and] able also to bridle the whole body.

in many things we offend all - sin against others

Eccles.7:20 - For [there is] not a just man (person) upon earth, that doeth good and sinneth not.

I John 1:8 - If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

the same [is] a perfect man (person), [and] able also to bridle the whole body - able to keep your tongue or that which you say under control.

Matt.12:37 - For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. See - What Defiles a Person

James 3:3-4 - Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, thay they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. (4) Behold also the ships, which though [the be] so great, and [are] driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the govenor listeth.

The above 2 verses shows how big something is, and yet it can be controlled or steered in a different direction. What will control your "tongue," is your mind - the use of self contol, stop and think what you are going to say before you say it, before you condemn yourself. See Matt.12:37 above.

James 3:5-6 - Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! (6) And the tongue [is] a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell (Gehenna, or the grave) See - Spiritual Gifts of God and One Christ--Many Members; Iniquity and Vanity and What Defiles a Person; Four Horses of Revelation

James 3:7-8 - For every kind (nature) of beasts and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: (8) But the tongue can no man tame; [it is] an unruly evil, full of deadly poison (speech).

As I said earlier, it is up to you to learn to control your speech, through self-control and will power. Satan sure loves a loose tongue as it will condemn you, and Satan wants you to follow him. So which is it going to be - to follow Satan and ending up in the furnace of fire, or follow God and his commandments. The choice is yours. See Furnace of Fire/Lake of Fire and Brimstone, and Ten Commandments.

James 3:9-10 - Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men (people), which are made after the similitude of God. (10) Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessings and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

In otherwords, one minute we pray to God and the next minute you curse or say bad things against another person. We are all held accountable for our speech and our actions, come judgment day

made after the similitude of God - after the image of God

Gen.1:26 - And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

James 3:11-12 - Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet [water] and bitter? (12) Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs so [can] no fountain both yield salt water and fresh. See- Fountains of Living Waters vs. Cisterns.

James 3:13-14 - Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. (14) But if ye have bitter envying and strife in you hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.

Gal.6:4 - But let every man (person) prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.

bitter envying and strife in your hearts, -

Rom.13:13 - Let us walk honestly (decently), as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.

James 3:15-16 - This wisdom descendeth not from above, but [is] earthly, sensual (natural) devilish. (16) For where envying and strife [is] there is confusion (or tumoult) and every evil work.

I Cor.3:3 - For ye are yet carnal: for whereas [there is] among you envying, and strife, and divisions (factions), are ye not carnel, and walk as men (according to man)?

James 3:17 - But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, [and] easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality (without wrangling), and without hypocrisy.

I Peter 1:22 - Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, [see that ye] love one another with a pure heart fervently: - See Love One Another with Righteousness

James 3:18 - And the fruit of the righteous is sown in peace of them that make peace.

Matt.5:9 - Blessed [are] the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

Ps.37:11 - But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
