TEN COMMANDMENTS
This Lord's word explained bible study document, will be the Ten Commandments. The ten commandments were given to Moses by God, on God's holy mountain. - from Exodus 20:3-17
All text taken from the King James Bible.
- Thou shalt have no other gods before thee (before God the Father, or, as a stumbling block before you).
- Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.
- Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.
- Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it holy.
- Honour thy father and thy mother.
- Thou shalt not kill.
- Thou shalt not commit adultery.
- Thou shall not steal.
- Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
- Thou shalt not covet any thing that [is] thy neighbour's.
These are the commandments of God.
The above ten commandments are the shortened version, the longer version can be found in Exodus 20:3-17, and are as follows:-
- Thou shalt have no other gods before me. (See - The First and Seventh Commandment)
- Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of [any thing] that [is] in heaven above, or that [is] in the earth beneath, or that [is] in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God [am] a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth [generation] of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
- Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
- Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days thou shalt labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day [is] the sabbath of the LORD thy God: [in] it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that [is] within thy gates: For [in] six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them [is,] and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
- Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
- Thou shalt not kill.
- Thou shalt not commit adultery.
- Thou shalt not steal.
- Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
- Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that [is] thy neighbour's.
Mark 7:7 - Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching [for] doctrines the commandments of men.
Mark 7:9 - And he (Jesus) said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition. - See - Fountain of Living Waters vs. Cisterns; The First and Seventh Commandments
Many people worship God in vain because they do not teach the commandments of God, BUT the commandments of men. Read the above two verses again.
Rev.22:14 - Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. - See - Meat of God or Tree of Life; Parable of the Fruit - Tree of Life; Commandment to Work; The First and Seventh Commandment
We are told in -
Matt.7:13-14 - Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide [is] the gate, and broad [is] the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: (14) Because strait [is] the gate and narrow [is] the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. - See - Fountain of Living Waters vs. Cisterns; The First and Seventh Commandments
In Luke 13:22, we find Jesus going through the cities and villages teaching on his journey to Jerusalem, in vs.23, somebody says to the Lord, "are there few that be saved?" and Jesus tells them in -
Luke 13:24 - Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I (Jesus) say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.
Relatively only a few will be saved, considering the population of today. There is only one way into the kingdom of God and that is to follow all of the commandments, to do the fruits of the Spirit and to conquer, overcome and gain the victory over the works of the flesh - the ways of the serpent/the devil. - See - The First and Seventh Commandments; "...Marrying and Giving in Marriage...." - Part I and Part II
I have explained the words, "overcome, conquer" and "gain the victory," in Four Horses of Revelation
