Doug MacLellan is a freelance photographer based in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. He specializes in long-term photo essays of a social and political nature.
Doug MacLellan will be in Sault Ste. Marie, Canada this March 14 to 18 to complete another segment in his on-going piece about First Nation's hockey in Canada. Previous segments included the 2002 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships in Akwesane, Mohawk Territory and Walpole Island First Nation Midgethockey.
Doug MacLellan recently became a member of GlobalAware, a photo co-operative dealing with social and environmental issues.
Doug MacLellan successfully opened two exhibitions of his HIV/AIDS in Zimbabwe project. "Olam of Difference" opened at the Blue Dot Gallery in Toronto in October 2003. Eight prints were sold at $750 each and $2000 was raised at the door with all proceeds going to the Howard Hospital. Later, the same photos under a new title, "Hope in the Shadows", opened at the Gallery in the The Helix in Dublin, Ireland on World AIDS Day. The Matilda Project courageously brought the show over and succeeded in raising their profile in Ireland. The Matilda Project sponsors home based care and orphan projects in Zimbabwe.
The photo "Old Man Crossing Flooded Road, Hagadera Refugee Camp, Kenya, 1997" was selected for the 'Documents and Dreams' exhibition at the Atelier B'fly in Vancouver in November 2003. Narrative 360 sponsored and curated a thirty five photo exhibition of narrative photography - basically long term, documentary photo projects by Canadian photographers.
After twenty five years of film based photography, Doug MacLellan decided to leap into the world of Digital Photography. New instalments of First Nation's Hockey and Africa will be shot digitally. A totally new body of work about Alexandria, his daughter, is six months into shooting; it is completely digital.

Pricing in two popular categories - Newspapers/Magazines and Books - has changed. Please review these new prices.
Assignment Fees are composed of three main elements: usage, exclusivity and distribution. Stock License fees are based on usage and distribution. A distinction Doug MacLellan features is the fact an image can be used up to a page for one price. Doug MacLellan believes a publication should not be constrained in the use of an image in a layout. The fee is somewhat more than a quarter page but typically less than normal one page fees.
