the family's story follows as this:

This watch was owned by Rhoda Wurtele Eaves or her sister Rhona Wurtele Gillis.  I purchased it from Rhoda’s son, Mr. Eaves.  Mr. Eaves wasn’t sure if he received the watch from his mother or aunt. The watch came down through the Wurtele family.  Rhoda and her twin sister Rhona were born in 1922.  The two Wurtele twin sisters were both championship Alpine skiers.  Rhona and Rhoda represented Canada in the 1948 winter Olympics in the downhill events.  The two sisters participated in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics as torchbearers.   Rhoda Wurtele Eaves was Torchbearer 164 passing the flame to Torchbearer 165 Rhona Wurtele Gillis in Oakville, Ontario.  For more information follow this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhona_and_Rhoda_Wurtele

1894 Waltham

18 size

Case is somewhat worn, especially the main case perimeter which has plate missing, but it still looks good overall and has a great dial. There are no visible chips or cracks in this 'American Waltham' signed 24 hour dial, and the hands appear to be original as well. The crystal is scratch free mineral and may be a replacement as it looks super. The design is still visible in the case back, which shows little wear through, and the movement is running well, It's signed 'American Waltham Watch Co.' 'Safety Pinion' and is numbered 6381XXX, dating it to approx. 1894. It appears to be a model 83, 7 jewel and is stem wind/stem set. The crown appears to be a replacement. A decent looking and running Waltham

Swiss made Ca. 1880

12 size (approx.)

My guess at an age would be ca. 1880.  Key wind & set. Single sunk dial.  Case looks to be silver, although there are no hallmarks, triple hinged.  Bezel opens to revel the dial and  the back opens to allow you to wind it or set the time through the dust cover with a small brass key.  The key has a 6 on one side, making it a size 6 key and a flower of some kind on the other.  The T bar is marked but I can't read it even with a loupe. Has tapered chain with spring clip and old cigar punch.

There are no markings of any kind on the movement.  On the balance cock is marked S & F only (no French).

On the inside of the back of the case is 800/1000  also 33927 which is also on the inside of the dust cover.

Movement – gilt bridge movement has a cylinder escapement and is signed “CTM Mathey” The CTM is the trade mark of Constantin Mathey and is in mint condition. Case – the silver open face case has a hinged inner and back cover and a hinged bezel. The case is covered with ornate floral decoration and it also has a vacant crest. Some one tried to scratch in some initials. The case is English with English Hallmarks.  That could mean that this watch was Swiss made and exported to England or The Movement & Dial were Swiss made and the watch was cased in England.  The case makers trademark is M♦S. The case appears original as it dates to 1883 as with the movement.  Dial –  Fancy multicolor hand painted Porcelain dial with painted black Roman numeral hour markers, and blued hour and minute hands in great condition.
Plastic crystal (replacement) is in excellent condition, fine scratches no chips or cracks!  This is the only information I can find on this maker, if this is him: Swiss Timepiece Makers Vol. II (1775-1975) by Pritchard notes a watchmaker Constantin Mathey located in Renan and that he registered trademarks etc 1880, 1883 and 1888. Swiss  REMONTOIR Ca. 1895-1910

Dial has a hard to see hairline crack at the 2 o'clock position. The rest of the face is perfect. This is a Pin set stem wind. Inside the back case it reads REMONTOIR CYLANDRE 10 RUBIS. Inside first back case it reads "J" (probably the case maker) then a crown 0.800 GALONNE there are 2 other symbols. The movement reads EDO, may be the manufacturer but I haven't been able to confirm that.  The watch is close to a 16 size

The terms REMONTOIR, CYLANDRE, 10 RUBIS are all generic terms.

"Remontoir 10 Rubis" on the cuvette means it's a stem wound watch with 10 (ruby) jewels. "Galonne" is a term meaning "mechanically gold plated silver", but I understand that it was never a great success because the gold plating used to wear off easily!  .800 refers to the amount of silver in the case, pure silver is.999

Cylinder escapement

The cylinder escapement was an improvement over the verge escapement in terms of time keeping abilities, but it was not easy to manufacture, was somewhat fragile and the escape wheel was in constant contact with the balance which caused it to need regular cleaning due to wear. It was commonly used by the French watchmakers, although the Swiss also used it quite a bit".

Swiss stem wind pin set movement, open face
White Dial
pin-lever escapement

Chromed base metal case
Watch measures: Dial measuring 35 mm on 3-9 o'clock without crown with crown 40 mm and 22 mm thick

Cuervo y Sobrinos was a brand name of Chs Leon Schmid, La Chaux-de-Fonds, but Schaeder ("The proletarian watch") also lists it separately. It seems they produced watches from the early 1880s on.

Referred to as the “Watch for the poor” or the “Proletarian watch” intended for the “working classes”. Cuervo y Sobrinos was centered in Cuba and manufactured at Outre-Doubs then distributed world wide until Castro came to power.

Ca. 1900 Omega

Open face Swiss Pocket Watch cased in Canada and  sold by G. A. Trottier in Valleyfield Quebec.

White single sunk dial with black roman numeral time index. The watch is marked G. A. Trottier, Valleyfield, Quebec.  The seconds indicator is at the 6 o'clock position.  There are some hard to see hairlines.

The watch is cased in an A.W.C. CO sterling silver watch case.

This  is a 15 jewel stem wind and set gold gilt movement. The serial number is 1264532.  The Omega symbol is on the bridge.

Watch measures: the watch is approx. 16 size

This watch appears to have been cased to mark something to do with a public building or hotel.  The seller believed that this engraving on the back cover was of the original Canadian parliament buildings.  I don't believe that is correct.

Wittnauer

1920's to the 1970's

This watch is a fairly common novelty item of mid level quality and with care could run for a very long time. They have been available since the 1880's to the present.
Beautiful, Vintage Wittnauer 17Jewel Swiss Movement Pendant Watch. The watch is spherical with a base metal gold front, gold band in the middle and back chain holder. The rest of the round body of the watch is Blue Enamel with gold stars. The watch face is white with gold hands. This watch is in Mint Condition! The watch runs and keeps time.

Dating this watch is hard but 1950 or so is a possibility. The key to dating it is knowledge of the time line for the Wittnauer brand. For a long time Wittnauer was a budget line of the Longines company and yours could be from that era. That would date it from as early as the 1920's to the 1970's
