Whether you are looking for a show puppy or a loving pet to cherish, please consider Munstervale Irish Setters.

Raised in Hertfordshire, England, I was always surrounded by dogs, cats and various other pets.  My parents had Great Danes, subsequently Irish Wolfhounds, and there was even a Dachshund belonging to my sister.

After working in London and Europe, a brief marriage and two years in Canada,  I eventually settled in Anglesey, Wales for a few years and acquired my first Irish Setter in 1977, Engedi Benjamin, as his family was posted to Ghana.  His background was Brackenfield/ Hartsbourne.  He eventually accompanied me to Canada when I emigrated in 1980. I then acquired Sabriena Aegis Laforet as a rescue (fortunately, I was able to acquire her registration papers).  Together they produced  two wonderful litters.  Clare, whom I kept from the second litter, was sadly lost in an accident, just after she had acquired her Canadian Championship.  As a result, I returned to England to rebuild my lines.

Brackenfield Jonquil and Penrhos Wanderer (Brackenfield/ Hartsbourne and Twoacre lines) were the foundation of my present stock.  Both gained their Canadian Championships.  Wanda was first bred to Patrick and Vicky Hunt's Can Ch Fairline Glade, from which litter I kept Can Ch Fairline Hollyglade of Munster, the dam of Can Ch DunEirin of Munstervale  (sire Am Ch Cucuhullain Good Fortune).  Quill sired two litters; then he and Wanda produced my own litter, all the puppies going to caring homes throughout Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia.

In December 2002, Brackenfield Walnut (Bracken), bred by Sybil Lennox of Matlock, England, joined the Munstervale clan.  His grandfather is Crufts Champion, Chicago Bear; and his dam, Brackenfield Camilla, was 2nd in her class at Crufts in 2003 and now has her first CC.  I hope that Bracken's lines will be beneficial to the North American Irish.

Puppies from Eirin and Bracken arrived on Victoria Day, May 23, 2005.  Please click on the links on the left for further information.

I breed every few years, predominately to keep my lines going, when I have requests for my stock or wish to keep a puppy myself.  All my dogs live in the house, are exceptionally well socialized, enjoying the five-plus fully fenced acres, car trips, meeting people and other dogs.

Puppies are initially raised in the family room and then moved into the dog room, where they have access to the adjoining outside run.  I breed particularly for soundness and temperament, with emphasis on true parallel-plane heads and good fronts.  All my stock is PRA and hip cleared.  Some of the puppies from my first five litters have gone to show homes and many to wonderful pet homes.  Wanda and Holly have produced several Canadian Champions.
