Canoe Along Part of the Nottawasaga River

Access directly at the campsite! Two journeys - an easy paddle south beginning above the dam. Very leisurely and safe. Low banks, no waves, little wind and current and extremely scenic. Leaving Nicolston passing through the Nottawasaga Inn Golf course until reaching non developed river banks. Raccoons, mink, beaver, ducks and turtles are a few of the river bank occupants. As the depth of the river becomes too shallow its time to turn back. Maximum time allotted would be 2 hours.

Leaving below the dam is another trip completely. Not a trip for your 1st paddle of the year! Windy and curvy like a snake! High rough banks with trees and flood debris lying along the bends of the river. Rocky and lower water conditions only allow us to rent the ‘Tupperware’ ‘polyurethane’ canoes. Partnerships in canoeing are developed by ‘communication and co-operation’ on this trip! The easiest pull out is approximately 3-4 hours away at the Baxter Bridge. Many make a daytrip, 8 hours to Hwy 90 and pull out at the Nottawasaga Conservation Office.

You can also trip down the river from Hwy 90 to Edenville, or Edenville to Wasaga Beach.

Go back in time, as development is not a visual part of this trip. A cell phone is a good emergency plan.

Canoe & peddle boat rentals. $8.00 an hour or $30.00 a day. Pick up is $20.00
