Pamela's English Genealogy
Personal Information
I was born in Poole, Dorset in 1963 and my brother Adrian was born in Lowestoft, Suffolk 3 years later. My parents both were born in Ipswich, Suffolk and in 1968 we all moved to the town of Shoreham-by-Sea which is nestled at the foot of the south downs on the coast between Worthing and Brighton. It was a lovely town to grow up in, the beach was a 10 minute walk away across the footbridge and the south downs were 10 minutes away in the other direction. The station provided easy access to London which can be reached by train in 75 minutes.
I attended Kings Manor school and after my O-Levels as they were called then, worked for an insurance agency in Brighton. I was a barmaid at the Cricketers pub in Southwick for a while. My husband Ray worked at the Beeding Blue Circle Cement works and we married in the lovely church of St Mary de Haura, Shoreham-by-Sea in 1983 making our home in Lancing, Sussex.
In 1987, we emigrated to Canada. Two years after we left, the cement works closed so Ray would have lost his job anyway. We love it here in Canada and have never regretted the move. The city of Guelph is a wonderful place to live. We returned to Shoreham in 1990 and 1994 to have our two children, Ryan and Lisa, both christened at St Mary de Haura, in Shoreham.
Because our two children are the first born Canadian branches of our Family Tree, I felt it was important for them to learn of their English roots which led to my current interest in genealogy.
If you would like to take a minute to have a cybertour of Guelph, Ontario, Canada, please go to Enjaydee's website which has photographs and loads of information about our wonderful city.
There are two websites for Shoreham-by-Sea and if you feel like taking a cyber-visit across the pond, please either go to the Knowhere pages for Shoreham-by-Sea or Andy Horton's Shoreham-by-Sea pages which is very detailed and has some great pictures of the area.
