City Passes New Smoking Policy
City Council on February 11, 1998 passed a resolution to support the declaration by
the Peel Medical Officer of Health that smoking and second hand smoke are health hazards.
Council's resolution declared that all public buildings and workplaces within
Mississauga will become smoke-free by 2001.
The implementation will be phased in during this time and staff and Council will work
with building owners to ensure fairness and consistency in its application.
Following a Public Meeting on April 27th where over 250 people attended to
comment, Council approved the By-law.
