September 1, 2013

In my arms in the wee hours of September 1, 2013, I lost my best bud of over 13 yrs.

He was the light of my life from an early age; a great Ambassador to the breed, teaching many students at my dog classes, doing many a Girl Guide nights, attending the Ron Kolbus Lakeside Gardens' Winter Fest celebrations and giving us the glory with all his conformation awards, the last major one being a Best of Opposite at the DC&SSA Specialty in 2010, winning the 1st ever Ronas Hill trophy award, in memory of Mrs. Lovett (where I was honoured to purchase as a youngster, my 1st sheltie that became Ronas Hill Kraker-jak UD). He made his mark on so many people from all coasts of Canada and down to Florida where Dr Sherry Lee had loved him for 1/2 a year and put his American Championship on him in just 13 shows.

What he gave to Mike and I here at Shelamo, there wouldn't be enough space to write it all ....

November 16-17, 2012

A successful weekend at the Ottawa Kennel Club this weekend. We've been on a hiatus this year in the show ring, having only shown our Shelamo A Moment Of Tyme "Cocoa" one day at the Belleville show, just before a year of age, where she received a RWB in the 1st show, and then in the 2nd show, unforunately she was the only one present for shelties, but went on to receive Best Puppy In Group. At OKC show, "Cocoa" was RWB on the Friday and then Best of Winners both Saturday and Sunday to start her on her way towards her Championship. On Friday, we entered our Shelamo Yakima V By Ruffleith (co-owned with Penny Woodruff) in the new Baby competition. She was awarded with Best Baby Puppy In Group!

August 8, 2012

We just received notice that Shelamo Sassy Squirt achieved his ATCHC (Agility Title Champion of Canada) this past weekend. Congrats to Shaymus & owner Lynn for such a great achievement.

July 7, 2012

It was with a heavy heart we said a tearful good-bye to our blue eye'd beauty "Casino". In less than one week, with several emergency vet trips and a specialist visit, a large mass tumor was detected behind her left eye. Rest well sweetie, the fields are there for you to run full tilt in now. You can view our tribute to her on our Blog.

June 15-17, 2012

(New Ch) Shelamo She's Got Moxi finished her Canadian Championship as a Father's Day present for Michael! She garnered a Best of Winners under judge Mrs. Jacqueline Rusby for 3pts.

May 25-27, 2012

At the OKC show our Shelamo She's Got Moxi took a Group 3rd from the classes under judge Mrs Olga Gagne; WB & BOS under judge Tim Doxtater and RWB under Donald Emslie. These wins put her just shy of her Canadian Championship.

May 10-12, 2012

Our CSSA National was held in Ancaster, Ontario this year. We are pleased to say our girls did us proud in their classes. Our Shelamo A Moment Of Tyme, at just over 6 months and at her 1st show placed 2nd in; Shelamo She's Got Moxi was 1st in her class and Ch Shelamo Riding The Wind made the 1st cut in female Specials. I also had the honour of taking in Ch Shelamo's Sure Fire CGN, CD, RE for the Veterans Parade on behalf of owner Judy Flanigan. Her brother BPIS Am/Cdn Ch Shelamo's Prospector was also entered in the Parade, but unfortunately we didn't have room to take him.

Masters Jumpers number 5
Masters steeplechase 9 - one more to go for his Steeplechase title
Masters Snooker #4 which gives him his Masters Snooker Dog of Canada title MSDC

He only needs 3 Masters gambles for his Agility Dog Champion of Canada ADCHC. I am going for Bronze in Jumpers which is 10 Q's in Masters this year too. He only needs one CKC Jumpers with Weaves Excellent for his title as well.

Jan 26, 2012

It was with a heavy heart we said good-bye to Ch Shelamo Tyme Descends. Without little warning we found she had serious lymphoma in her intestinal/pancreatic region to which surgery was impossible and treatment was grave. We didn't wake her up from surgery. She leaves behind a legacy of kids, including her newest hopefuls, 14 wk old girls, "Cocoa", "Gem" and "Mocha".

Sept 11, 2011

Shelamo's Main Sail (senior boy!) obtained 2 legs towards his CD with owner Judy Flanigan. Shelamo Sassy Squirt added another agility title ... Master Jumpers, owned by Lynn Cuthbert. There are several other agility dogs working hard at titles, just gotta get some updates on them.

Aug 5-7th, 2011

At the Societe Canine de Quebec, in Ste Foy, Quebec, our "Breeze" came home with two more Breed wins, 2 Group 3rd wins, 3 Best Puppy In Breed wins, and one Best Puppy in Group. This was her last show as a puppy, with a present ranking of #2 Puppy Sheltie & #9 Sheltie in Canada. The biggest joy we got was on Saturday watching her being handled by a junior in the Junior Handling competition. Pictures can be seen on her page.

July 9-10th, 2011

At the show in Baie-St-Paul, PQ our girl Shelamo Deja Vu picked up BOB/BPIB from the classes. Our MBPIS BPISS Ch Shelamo Flash Forward garnered another Group placement, taking Grp 4th under judge Ms DC Graffmann. "Breeze" continues to be tied for #1 Sheltie Puppy.

Not to be outdone, Shelamo's Main Sail RN is currently #11 sheltie. All 3 dogs are owned & trained by Judy Flanigan. Hats off to her for working 3 dogs at the same time.

May 6-7th, 2011

Great weekend for our Shelamo Flash Forward. She completed her Championship, coming home with 4 Best Puppy In Groups and 2 Group 3rd placements. Her sister Shelamo Deja Vu, made her debut in 2 of the shows, one which she was RWB.

April 21th, 2011 - American Shetland Sheepog Assoc - Nat'l Specialty, Purina Farms, St Louis, MO

It was a great thrill to hear that our MBPIG Ch Shelamo Riding The Wind was awarded a Second Placement in her class!!!! We can't thank Canadian handler Cheryl Pike for piloting her to this win. Unfortunately we weren't able to be there due to recent surgery Mike had. This is our 1st class placement at an ASSA Specialty, with the 1st two dogs we've had the opportunity to enter. Her daughter Breeze also went and all we've heard is rave reviews on her.

March 5-6, 2011 - DC&SSA Specialty Weekend

Great weekend for us at the Scarbourgh Kennel Club show, which also hosted 2 sheltie Specialties. We showed our co-owned puppy boy "Jelly Bean" who we showed in all the shows, and our young pup "Breeze' who was entered only in the Specialties. On Saturday in the regular show Ch Shelamo Jumping Jelly Bean was BOS & BPIB. At the DC&SSA Specialty both dogs won their classes in the Sweeps judging, and in the end our "Breeze' was Best In Sweeps, under judge Cindy Bays. In the regular Specialty we are proud to say, "Breeze" was Reserve Winners Female and Best Puppy Sheltie In Specialty. On Sunday, "Jelly Bean" was again BOS. The Specialty on Sunday was hosted by the DC&SSA . We were pleased that "Breeze" won her her puppy class.

February 19-21, 2011

We had a super weekend at the Ontario Breeders Dog Show in Markham, Ont. The 1st 2 days of showing we finished our co-owned 10 mnth old boy, who's now Ch Shelamo Jumping Jelly Bean. Jelly Bean finished in 5 showings, winning several Best of Winners, Best of Opposites and Puppy Breeds. On the Monday, (really!) for some bustling ring experience we showed one of our young hopeful females, Shelamo Flash Forward. Breeze handled herself like a pro, coming away with a 3pt win going Best of Winners, Best Puppy in Breed and on to Best Puppy In Group, under respected breeder judge Judith Bryne. She was just 6 months & 2 weeks old.

February 2, 2011

Life has been quiet here at Shelamo with regards to shows and litters. We though, do have some good news that just arrived ... BPIS Ch Shelamo's Riding The Sky's, hip results came in and he's OFA Prelim Good. He had his eyes done back in January and they are clear/normal.

October 23 & 24th, 2010

It was an exciting 2 days @ the Belleville Dog Show. Shelamo Jumping Jelly Bean, at just 6+ months old, was Best of Winners, Best of Opposite Sex & Best Puppy in Breed both days garnering him 6 pts towards his Championship. "Jelly Bean's" dam is our lovely Multi Group winning girl Ch Shelamo Sugar Shack, and didn't she surprise us this weekend also, by taking a Group 3rd on the 1st day, and then ramping it up with a RESERVE BEST IN SHOW on Sunday, under respected judge Mr Charles Bett!

September 17th, 2010

We attended the Sudbury show this weekend, especially to compete in the 6th annual Purina Puppy Classic. This was our 3rd year attending, with BPIS Ch Shelamo's Riding The Sky HIC having the honour of going. In this event he was awarded 3rd placed in the Group. In the regular show he was BOS the 1st two days and then under respected judge Michelle Billings he was Best of Breed. It was a nice girl's weekend away, with my mom and Marylou. The shopping spree was fun, and OH, the all you can eat feast at the Red Lobster, well you'll just ask one of those how much I ate!

I also heard from owner Kate Freeman that .....

Shelamo Arhope The Sentinal AGN CCGC, CCGN, SADC, VAADC, VMJADC. CD, MADC, EJB

"Panda Q'd in both his runs on the 18th - Masters Jumpers and Masters Snookers, which earned him his Masters Snookers Dog of Canada (MSDC) title, and put him another leg closer to his Expert Silver Award for Jumpers, (which requires 25 Q's-I think) he's at about 15 having already earned his Expert Bronze (10 Q's) earlier this year." This guy is still doing it at THIRTEEN YEARS young!

September 4th, 2010

Thanks to the efforts of owner Linda Howie, "Whistler" went herding sheep and obtained his Herding Instinct Certification. He is now BPIS Ch Shelamo's Riding The Sky HIC.

July 16-20, 2010

This is our busiest show time of the year. At the Kars show, our Shelamo Sugar Rush was 2 x Winners Dog & Best of Opposite Sex, then finishing his Championship with Best of Winners & BOS. This makes #3 for his dam Ch Shelamo Sugar Shack, and #15 for his sire Ch Highledge Irish Cream ROMC. The 1st day of the Lombardy show as a Champion he was BOS.

July 11, 2010

Received some sad news, "Toffee", a litter sister to our Shelamo's Party Pack ROMC took a turn for the worse, thus owners Allan & Linda had to make the hard decision to see her over the Rainbow Bridge. We were always her 2nd home when her family went away, she came religiously every 4 weeks for her nails & foot trim, along with many visits each year to have her full grooming done and rid her of the dust she stirred up on the streets on her many daily walks. She was just over 12 yrs of age.

"Toffee" on the left with her best bud and shadow "Sheena".

June 18 & 19, 2010

These two days were exhausting yet exhilarating at the same time. We spent them travelling back and forth to the Kingston & District KC not only to show several of our dogs, and Linda Howie's "Whistler", but also to be the hosts/organizers for the 1st CSSA Regional Specialty East Ont/PQ. On Friday, going Best of Breed for a 5pt win, we now have Ch Shelamo That's Amore. Her brother Shelamo Sugar Rush was Reserve Winners Dog. On Sat going Best of Winners & BOS, Linda Howie's boy finished becoming BPIS Ch Shelamo's Riding the Sky. Thanks go to Pennylynn Woodruff for her expert grooming & handling of him.

On a sadder note we heard from Jack & Pauline Richardson that their sweet "Harmony", Shelamo English Rose SAAGJ, SMJD peacefully passed away curled up beside Jack in her bed.

October 21, 1996 - June 19, 2010

June 2010

We're now on FACEBOOK. The most fun tho is following clients of ours, Rick & Kris Morin as they travel across the country to the Pacific Coast on their motorcycle with their sheltie Shelamo Autumn Dream, "Casey" in tow.

May 31th, 2010

More news from one of our clients. Jack Richardson (and wife Pauline) reports that his young tri girl Shelamo Ticket to Success ADC qualified to compete in this years AAC Nationals in Calagary at Spruce Meadows. She's in the 10" specials class.

May 28th, 2010 Weekend

This was a super weekend for us. On Friday at the Ottawa Kennel Club show, our Shelamo Sugar Rush was WD/BOS for 2pts to start his Championship, then to top it off Shelamo's Riding The Sky was not only RWD but also Best Puppy In Show! This win certainly put "Whistler's" owner Linda Howie on Cloud Nine. On Saturday, Shelamo Sugar Rush repeated his performance bringing him to 4pts. On Sunday, it reversed, "Whistler" went WD/BOS, with "Rush" being RWD.

"Whistler's" win makes for our 3rd Best Puppy In Show Winner

The 1st was our "Rocky" almost 10 years ago, then his grandson Ch Shelamo Changing Winds, "Windsor" and now, another grandson with "Whistler" - keeping it all in the family!

"Whistler" is a repeat breeding of our Multi Best Puppy In Group winning girl Ch Shelamo Riding The Wind

In the other performance rings, we received news from Judy Flanigan that her Ch Shelamo Sure Fire CD, at 10+yrs of age completed her Rally Novice with 2 high scores of 93 & 94 out of 100. Then in herding don't we hear that Playland Shelamo The Charmed One, owned by Valerie Nicholls obtained her Herding Instinct Test. So nice to hear our dogs have the ability to perform in all these different venues and that the owners are taking the time and pride in doing so.

May 9th, 2010

Once again, Shelamo's Riding The Sky was Winners Dog & Best of Opposite, plus Best of Winners at the Arnprior Show. He now sports 4 pts.

May 8th, 2010

At the Arnprior Dog Show, Shelamo's Riding The Sky was Winners Dog & Best of Opposite to start on his way to his Cdn Ch. He is owned by Linda Howie. Thank-you breeder/judge Brian Reid from New Brunswick.

April 16- May 6th, 2010

We had a great road trip out to our CSSA National in Saskatoon. Our Am/Cdn Ch "Rocky" did us proud as a Veteran in the classes he was entered in, our Ch Shelamo Tyme Descends made the cut of the female Specials and our Shelamo Ovation, just 6 mths old had a blast with all the new surroundings. As I work through our pictures and experiences you can follow our trip on our Blog.

April 16, 2010

Come follow the results of our Canadian Shetland Sheepdog Associations' National Specialty, it starts Thursday April 29th

at http://www.canadiansheltiebreeders.ca/NATIONALS2010/results.htm ... bookmark this and check often.

Our show is held every two years, usually goes from east to west, with this year being held in Saskatoon. Mucho thanks to Penny Woodruff, Ruffleith Shelties for setting up the site and then sitting each day waiting for the results to come in live.

April 12, 2010

This past weekend we attended the Champlain Dog Show with our Shelamo That's Amore. On Saturday she took a Group 2nd under Ms. P. Otero from Mexico and then on Sunday repeated her winning ways under Mr. C. Bett from Ontario. What a way to start her Championship! These wins give her 10pts, so now she just needs a judge to finish.

March 27, 2010

We're very pleased to report that we now have Ch Shelam Burleigh Casino Rama CGN, CD. "Casino" completed her Companion Dog obedience title under the guidance of our good friend Mary-Anne Yolkowskie. She's taken our 'show girl'. and in just over a year brought her to the level of being able to compete in the 1st of the obedience titles. And this is with a girl that is just approaching 10 years of age! Very proud of these two ladies.

We also go word that Kate Freeman obtain "Panda's", Shelamo Arhope The Sentinal, Expert Jumpers Bronze agility title. This is a boy that is 12+ yrs of age. Jack and Pauline Richardson report that Shelamo Ticket To Success, "Tic" obtained her Agility Dog of Canada Title.

These Performance titled dogs can be seen on our "The Other Rings" page.

March 13, 2010

Mike and I went down this past weekend to participate in the Purina National CKC Charity Show held in Mississauga. This show is becoming one of the most prestigeous shows in Canada, with entries climbing to around 850 on the Saturday. It was open to the public and drew some 8,000 spectators on Saturday. We took our Shelamo That's Amore, her 1st ring debut and came away with Reserve Winners Female (3pt) in tough competition, especially with a lot of professionals in the ring this time. We had a great time indoors, especially being treated like royalty by Purina since we are ProClub members, however outdoors was a totally different story as it poured rain with high winds. There are pictures on our Blog.

February 14, 2010

On February 14 we went down to Toronto for the Canadian Collie & Shetland Sheepdog Assoc National Specialty with our BPIS Am/Cdn Ch Shelamo's Prospector and came away winning Best of Opposite Sex from the Veteran Class! What a thrill, as we also won the very 1st "Helen Lovett Memorial" trophy, donated by daughter Heather Lovett. This win was so special as my 1st sheltie was Ronas Hill Kraker-jak UD. He was the one that gave me the 'bug' to eventually be where I am now in this wonderful world of shelties.

January 2010

We've got a new addition to our Shelamo family! She can be seen on our Hopefuls page. She is from our co-breeding with Margaret Pratt, Sharrow Shelties. We welcome a cutie pie, 8 wk old girl, out of our Ch Stone Mills Vista At Shelamo, sired by the lovely Am/Cdn Barwoods Jana JFK.

December 19 2009

From our hearts to your home, we here at Shelamo wish you and your dog(s) a very merry Christmas, hope SantaPaws is good to all of you, and the best for the New Year.

November 1 2009

This past weekend Ch Shelamo Burleigh Casino Rama CGN earned 2 legs towards her Companion Dog obedience title. She has been trained from the 'Special's show girl' at 91/2 years of age, to an obedience qualifier by our good friend Mary-Anne Yolkowskie. This has all been in the last year after her coming home from the CSSA 2008 National where she made it down to the final female cuts. Due to the regulations Mary-Anne had to handle "Casino" in the Novice B class, which usually means tougher competition. They came away with a 1st & 3rd placement. Congrats ladies, just one more leg and we'll have a 'balanced' dog ... beauty & brains.

October 15 2009

I totally forgot to mention how hard Janice Silcox (co-owner of "Nino"), being my "Editor In Chief" in proofing all the text and links. Thanks Jan!

October 14 2009

Today, we are going 'live' with our new website!

Our previous site we established back in 2002 and the host is no longer providing a free service. It has been a real learning curve as I've had to learn a web design program. When you come from a WISYWIG background, then have to learn computer coding, it can be a challenge. Many thanks go to Pennylynn Woodruff for her lessons, phone calls for HELP! and over all web savvy, for without it, I would really be pulling my hair out! The main part of our site is up, in the days and weeks to come we will be adding page by page.

Sept 17-19/09

Mike and I attended the Sudbury Kennel Club show with our new Ch Shelamo Riding The Wind. It was a special weekend as it was the 5th Purina Puppy Classic event on the Saturday night, and "Chinook" had qualified from her wins in Aug. Two years previously we took our BPIS Ch Shelamo Changing Winds to this event, coming home with a Group 2nd. During the regular show "Chinook" came away with 3 BOB's, 2 BPIB's, a Group 4th and one BOS. She turned 1 year of age on the Saturday so wasn't eligible for any more Puppy wins on the Saturday. A the Purina Puppy Classic though, she took a Group 2nd with 1 Beardie (handled by a Professional handler) and 2 other shelties, owner handled, competiting. We used the Sunday as a driving home day, and luckily we did, as the homebound traffic started to get heavy.

Aug /09

At the largest outdoor 4 day show, SD&G down near Cornwall our Shelamo Riding The Wind finished her Championship with 2 days going BOW's. As a Special she took the Breed the next 2 days. All 4 days she was Best Puppy In Breed, obtaining 2 Best Puppy In Groups with her final day going Group 4th in tough competition.

July /09

At the Kars Dog Show our young hopeful Shelamo Riding The Wind was Winners Female with a 4pt win.
At the Limestone City Obed & KC, she garnered another 3pts with WF.

July /09

Received news that Shelamo Excuse My Dust CD, CGN co-owned with Pam McGeachie, obtained his Novice Rally in 3 straight trials with scores of 99, 97 & 98 out of 100! You two just rock!

June 6/09 Weekend

Three of our dogs earned their (CKC) CGN award this weekend!  At Camp Dogwood, our good friend Mary Anne trained & handled Ch Shelamo Casino Rama to this award, and down the Toronto way Judy Flanigan put the title on both Ch Shelamo's Sure Fire CD and Shelamo Truffle Delight (litter sister to our Ch Shelamo Sugar Shack).  Very proud of you ladies!

May 22/09 Weekend

The OKC show was a georgeous weekend, a bit windy but otherwise super temperature and sunny.  Our Shelamo Seriously Sinful was there with the best of the females, going RWB 2 of the days ... close but no points.  If nothing more with all the bathing & grooming, it gave us the opportunity to get updated pics of our "Flirt", "Matti" and "Sibelle".  We were SO happy for the last day results for our good friend Penny and her Ruffleith dogs.  Certainly a very proud moment for her.

May 8th/09 Weekend

"Bliss" did us proud by going BOW/BOS for 3 pts to finish her Championship on Friday.  Then on Saturday as a Special she went Best of Breed.  This is the 1st Ch is a litter of 4 prospects out of our Ch Shelamo Sugar Shack to finish.

May 3/09

CC&SSA Specialty - We now have Ch Shelamo's Sure Fire CD. "Amber' obtained her last leg towards her CD at 9+ yrs of age.  Shelamo Heart's Delight was 1st in both her sweeps & regular show classes; our Ch Shelamo Sugar Shack plus Ch Stone Mills Vista At Shelamo (handled by our good friend Mary Anne Yolkowskie) were the only other 2 pulled for consideration for BOB/BOS.

Apr 10/09

At the Petawawa Dog Show we now have CH Shelamo Winds At My Back, finishing with a 5pt win, WD/BOW!  Our Shelamo Heart's Delight "Bliss" added another 3pts by taking WF.

Apr 6/09

We rec'd news that our CH Shelamo's Sure Fire obtained her 1st two legs towards her CD @ 9 yrs of age, a 1st and 2nd place at that!

News of 2008

Nov 28/08

It never gets easy to hear ... Marg Lacroix's dear OTCH Shelamo Easy Spirit Am CD now awaits us at the Rainbow Bridge.  He was our Ch Shelamo Instanlty Classic's 1st son.  Rest in Peace "Esprit" and know you made many imprints on people's hearts with your 13+ yrs you were here.

Nov 23/08
