Welcome to the Shotokan Karate Tora Dojo.
Shotokan Karate is a traditional martial art. Practice of Shotokan gives many benefits, including discipline, better strength, co-ordination, concentration and stamina, and much improved self-confidence. Far from making one arrogant, it makes one more polite, but firm and unwavering when a line is crossed.
People interested in our dojo are invited to drop in any time for a free lesson, or even just a look at what we do and how we do it. If you like what you see, you can then register.
Our head instructor, Chuck Billo, lived in Japan for three years. He attended classes at the dojo in the city of Beppu and learned a great deal from Koishi Sensei. He brought back the somewhat shorter, stronger, and more direct techniques seen all over Oita. Our dojo also emphasizes a complete fighting ability, including throws, falls, and practical self-defense in real-life situations. For additional understanding, weapons training is taught when students have reached an advanced rank (Brown Belt). Although the most basic weapon - the stick - is introduced to beginners.
You will find more detailed information on the following pages about our Dojo, Shotokan Karate, and the Beppu dojo in Japan. We will be adding more information in the future, so come back and see us again! |
