Lafrance - Belanger - Grenier Photographs - St. Albert - Sturgeon Falls
Lafrance, Belanger and Grenier Family Photographs
from St. Albert and Sturgeon Falls, 1870-1920

En Français, s'il vous plaît!

These photographs are from an album assembled by Francois Lafrance and his wife, Marie Belanger Lafrance between 1880 and about 1930. Only a few of the persons in these photographs have been identified.

Francois Lafrance, the eldest son of Onesime Lafrance and Sophie Godard Lafrance, was born in St.Albert, Ontario, Canada in 1868. He married Marie Belanger, the daughter of Christophe Belanger and Marguerite Grenier, in St.-Isidore, Ontario in 1889.

Shortly afterward, Francois and Marie moved to Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, where they raised their family.

Do you have old photographs of the Lafrance, Belanger, or Grenier families of St. Albert or Sturgeon Falls from the 1870-1930 era? If you do, would you please compare the individuals in those photographs with the people in these ones? If you can identify anyone in these pictures, we would be exceedingly happy to hear from you!

We would also like to hear from anyone who has other photographs of Onesime and Sophie Lafrance's children or grandchildren.

I can identify someone in one of these photos, and I want to email you about it!

I would like to make a comment about this website!

Part 3: Grenier Family Photographs

The first of the Grenier family photographs is inscribed simply "famille Grenier", with no identification provided for the individuals. Marie Belanger's mother was Marguerite Grenier, and the adults in this picture may have been among Marie's aunts and uncles. Can you identify anyone in this photograph?

The second of the Grenier family photographs is a beautiful image of "Louis Grenier", according to the inscription on the back of the picture. Although Marie Belanger's grandfather was named Louis Grenier, we are not certain that this is a photograph of him. The photograph was taken in Marquette, Michigan, where some of the Grenier family apparently moved in the late 1800's. Perhaps a member of the Michigan Grenier clan can identify Louis?

Part 4: Adults of Unknown Identity

This section includes pictures of people who may be members of the Lafrance, Belanger or Grenier families, but the individuals are unidentified. Can you identify anyone shown below?

Unknown Man. Photograph is inscribed "1885" (Please click image to enlarge)

Unknown Woman #1 (Please click image to enlarge)

Unknown Woman #2 (Please click image to enlarge)

This beautiful young woman's photograph is inscribed with the name "Lida". We suspect this is a Lida Belanger who was born in Clarence, Ontario in 1860. However, because we are not certain, and because we have not determined her relationship to Marie Belanger, we are classifying her identity as "unknown".

In the next photograph, the woman on the left strongly resembles the woman in "Unknown Couple #2", and we suspect this is the same person.

Part 5: Children of Unknown Identity

Children are notoriously difficult to identify in old pictures, because their appearance may change drastically in a matter of a few years.

Our hope is that you may have copies of these or similar photographs, with these children identified.

Part 6: Unknown Places

This schoolhouse may have been located in either St. Albert or Sturgeon Falls.

If this photograph was taken in St. Albert in the late 1880's, then one of the adults shown may be Onesime Lafrance's daughter Melodie, who was a school-teacher at the time.

Can you identify this schoolhouse?
