832. Charles Belanger was born on 19 Aug 1640 in L'Ange Gardien, Montmorency Co, Que. He was christened on 19 Aug 1640 in L'Ange Gardien, Montmorency Co, Que. He died on 14 Dec 1692 in Chateau Richer, Montmorency Co, Que. He was buried on 15 Dec 1692 in Chateau Richer, Montmorency Co, Que. Barbe and Charles lived at Chateau-Richer. There is a reason to believe that Charles may have been the seigneur du fief de Bonsecours (L'Islet) On 19 December 1662 (gr. Audouart) he received a piece of land (concession) from Charles Le Gardeur de Villiers, part of the rear fief Le Gardeur in the Seigneurie of Beaupre. He received another farm from the same person on 15 Jun 1669. Unlike his brothers, who moved to the Seigneurie of Bonsecours at L'Islet, Charles lived on the North bank of the St Lawrence river. As the oldest son, he inherited half of the Seigneurie of Bonsecours at his father's death. The other half was divided among his brothers and sisters. Charles Belanger and Barbe Delphine Cloutier were married on 21 Nov 1663 in Chateau Richer, Montmorency Co, Que. Genealogie des Familles de Terrebonne says marriage was 25 Nov 1663, so does the Madawaska marriages book and the Genealogy of French Families of the Detroit Region and the Red Drouin books. A genealogy received from Paul Belanger of St Vallier on 17 Jul 1997 also lists the date of marriage as 25 Nov 1663. The other sources, including Jette, indicate 21 November 1663.

Note: It is entirely possible that some sources refer to the marriage contract and others to the actual marriage which would have happened afterwards.

According to the Genealogy of the French Families of the Detroit Region, he died during the winter of 1690-1691. Another source (Association des familles Belanger, Inc., Laval, Que) lists 25 Apr 1687 He was buried. Probably buried at Cap-St.-Ignace Came to Quebec in 1636 (1634?) and married in 1637 Spelled his name Bellanger. The expedition from France to the New France happened in 1634 when many families came over together to settle.

In 1627 the population of New France was about one hundred of which ten were women.

August 2001 I received the following from Florent Belanger of the Canadian Association of the Belanger Family.

To all. This morning I received a document from respected sources in Touques. The document was published in a genealogy magazine called ATHENA ON The TOUQUES.

The Bellanger/ Rainville Family

In 1636, Monseignor of Montmagny, successor of Champlain as governor of New France, arrives in Quebec accompanied by several important families from the Normandy region. One of these is Francois Bellanger from Auge. He was born in Touques in 1612 and married Marie Guyon in Quebec on the 12th of July 1637. She gave him twelve children of which the third son, Jean Francois, will become Lord of Bonsecours. As for the eldest Nicolas, he is often confused with Nicolas Bellanger the manufacturer of salt. This Nicolas was not born in Canada but in St Thomas of Touques in 1632. Nobody knows anything certain aboaut his background and his relationship to Francois Bellanger remains pure supposition, nourished principally by the fact that the two men are originally from the same town. It is impossible to know the exact arrival date of Nicolas Bellanger on the Canadian territory. However, several official documents are found starting from 1655 which attests to his presence beyond doubt on this side of the Atlantic. At age 23 years he becomes the owner of one lot near Beauport. Francois Belanger and Marie Guyon were married on 12 Jul 1637 in ND de Quebec, Quebec, Que. The records of the Church of the Latter Day Saints (Page 6,099) show a marriage between Francois and Marie Guyon on 12 Jul 1637 In Lisieux Calvados.

1665. Marie Guyon was born on 18 Mar 1624 in Mortagne, Perche, Orne, France. Arrived in "Nouvelle-France", Quebec at age of 10 on the same ship that brought Francois Bellanger who was 22 years of age. She was baptized on 18 Mar 1624 in Mortagne, Perche, Orne, France. She died on 29 Aug 1696 in Cap St Ignace, Montmagny Co, Que. She was buried on 1 Sep 1696 in Cap St Ignace, Montmagny Co, Que. Although Jette has her being buried in January Tanguay has her buried on Sept 1, 1696 Abbe Tanguay records Marie's christening in 1618 which is before Jette has her being born.

L'Abbe C. Tanguay lists Marie Guyon as being christened in 1618 and buried on Sept 1, 1696 at Cap St. Ignace. This would make her 16 when she landed in New France and 19 when she married. This makes more sense than the other scenario.

This family tree information is predicated on the premise that Marie Guyon was 16 when she came to New France, married Francois at 19 (July 12, 1637) and gave birth to Nicolas in 1638. Jette lists Nicolas as having died in 1682 at 50 years which would make his birth year as 1632 and not 1638 as listed by Tanguay (who also says he died at 50 in 1682). If Nicolas was born in 1638 and died in 1682, he died at age 44.

Francois Belanger and Marie Guyon had the following children:

	832	i.	Charles Belanger.

He died on 30 May 1663 in Beauport, Quebec Co, Que. The Jean Guyon Genealogical work by Louis Guyon indicates the death of Jean as 3 May and not 30 May. He was buried on 31 May 1663 in Beauport, Quebec Co, Que. Jean Guyon came from St. Jean de Mortagne, Perche/Orne in France. This family name has also been recorded as Guion du Buisson and includes dit names such as Dion-Guyon, Dionne, Dion, Dione, Guion du Buisson. Jean was engaged on Mar 12, 1634 by Robert Giffard, Mason, and received an "arriere-fief" in Beauport which was passed down to his son Jean .

On September 29, 1623, "honest man, Jehan Guyon, a mason by trade, living in the parish of St Jean at Mortagne, sold to Marin Louche a house adjoining monsieur de Tourouvre which belongs to said seller d;ue to the estate of the late Jacques Guyon, his father" (Records of the Tourouvre notary.) This is of prime importance for the Guyons: the child born at Tourouvre and Giffard's censitaire, are one and the same person, there are not two Jean Guyons.

By 1626 Jean Guyon, father of Barbe Guyon, was ready to move into a more spacious house, and he purchased one in the parish of Notre Dame de Mortagne. It had two lower chambers with a high chamber and a small study above them and an upstairs over the high chamber. There was also a cellar, a wood house and a courtyard. This house was on the Rue de la Barberye, which extended from the St Denis Gate to the college of Toussaint. It was in this house in the parish of Notre-Dame de Mortagne that, on 11 Feb 1632, there was entered into the marriage contract between Barbe, eldest daughter of Jean Guyon, then not quite 15, and Pierre Paradis, gunsmith, son of the late Jacques Paradis and of Michelle Pesle. Pierre was attended by his mother, his brothers Jacques and Guillaume Paradis, his brother-in-law Francois Lespinay (Godbout calls him LESVERON), carpenter, and his cousin Jean Dupont. As a trousseau, Barbe had half a dozen sheets, half a dozen table cloths, 12 napkins, a feather bed with canopy, curtains, bed clothes and bedstead, an expandable table with two forms, 4 stools, 2 chairs, one small bed, all made of wood, a half dozen porringers and plates with a pot and a pint container, all made of pewter, 2 dishes and cups of pewter, a boiler with it's spoon and cover and a small caldron and frying pan, all made of iron. She was to be given 30 pounds the day of her wedding and 90 pounds one year later. For his part, Pierre Paradis was allowed the usage for 6 years of all the tools and equipment needed for his trade. Jean Guyon and Mathurine Robin had 8 children born at Mortagne between 1617 and 1634. Only the six youngest accompanied them to Canada in the spring of 1634. The oldest, Barbe, followed with her husband Pierre Paradis, and their family, in 1651. Jean Guyon du Buisson and Mathurine Robin were married on 2 Jun 1615 in St Jn de Mortagne, Perche, Orne, France.

3331. Mathurine Robin was born before 1599 in St Jn de Mortagne, Perche, Orne, France. She died on 16 Apr 1662 in Beauport, Quebec Co, Que. The Jean Guyon Genealogical work by Louis Guyon indicates the death of Mathurine as 17 April and not 16 April. She was buried on 17 Apr 1662 in Beauport, Quebec Co, Que. Mathurine may also have been known as Mathurine-Madeleine Robin-Boule and she came from St. Jean de Mortagne, Perche/Orne in France. Jean Guyon du Buisson and Mathurine Robin had the following children:

	 	i.	Barbe Guyon du Buisson was born on 18 Apr 1617 in
St Jn de Mortagne, Perche, Orne, France. She was baptized
on 19 Apr 1617 in St Jn de Mortagne, Perche, Orne, France.
She died on 27 Nov 1700 in St Pierre, Isle Orleans, Que.
She was buried on 29 Nov 1700 in St Pierre, Isle Orleans,
Que. By 1626 Jean Guyon, father of Barbe Guyon, was ready
to move into a more spacious house, and he purchased one
in the parish of Notre Dame de Mortagne. It had two lower
chambers with a high chamber and a small study above them
and an upstairs over the high chamber. There was also a
cellar, a wood house and a courtyard. This house was on
the Rue de la Barberye, which extended from the St Denis
Gate to the college of Toussaint. It was in this house
in the parish of Notre-Dame de Mortagne that, on 11 Feb
1632, there was entered into the marriage contract between
Barbe, eldest daughter of Jean Guyon, then not quite 15,
and Pierre Paradis, gunsmith, son of the late Jacques Paradis
and of Michelle Pesle. Pierre was attended by his mother,
his brothers Jacques and Guillaume Paradis, his brother-in-law
Francois Lespinay (Godbout calls him LESVERON), carpenter,
and his cousin Jean Dupont. As a trousseau, Barbe had half
a dozen sheets, half a dozen table cloths, 12 napkins, a
feather bed with canopy, curtains, bed clothes and bedstead,
an expandable table with two forms, 4 stools, 2 chairs, one
small bed, all made of wood, a half dozen porringers and
plates with a pot and a pint container, all made of pewter,
2 dishes and cups of pewter, a boiler with its spoon and
cover and a small caldron and frying pan, all made of iron.
She was to be given 30 pounds the day of her wedding and
90 pounds one year later. For his part, Pierre Paradis
was allowed the usage for 6 years of all the tools and
                  equipment needed for his trade.

Jacques Guyon du Buisson and Marie Huet were married on 15 Apr 1583. From Roger Chatell, 31 December 2002: I have recently become aware of research that provides ancestors to Jean Jacques GUYON (1562-1623). I cited Linda Mullen lemullen51@aol.com The additional generations are not unique to her on worldconnect.rootsweb.com, but I selected hers. Linda, can you please provide your original sources for the following?

Jacques GUYON's father was Mathurin GUYON (c.1530-?), and his father was Jean GUYON Sieur de Beaupre and Thaumetz (c.1500-?). Linda cites the Broderband World Family Tree, Vol. 2, Ed. 1, Tree #1133. She also states that Jean accompanied Jacques Cartier on his 1534-35 voyage to Canada. The latter being, of course, the discoverer of Canada. What is more extraordinary, is that she states that the same Broderband tree indicates that Jean had a sister Catherine who was married to Jacques Cartier.
