July 13, 2009 - CSHA License Status - On June 21, Foxwind obtained the third and final qualifier to upgrade to Bronze Premium status with the Canadian Sport Horse Association. He is now a fully licensed and approved F0 Canadian Sport Horse Stallion! Foxwind's Bronze status was earned through his achievments in Eventing in 2008 and 2009 with Cindy Geres.
2009 Competition Results - The first three Horse Trials of 2009 have come and gone in quick succession. Training in preparation has been intensive and fruitful. The first outing was on Mother's Day at Will O' Wind where Foxwind put in a less than stellar Dressage test, but backed it up with clean cross-country and stadium rounds which earned a fourth place finish.
In June (on Father's Day), we travelled to Caledon Hunt Club and despite the slick and unsure footing Foxwind put in his best Dressage Test yet. A clean stadium effort and few measly time fautls on cross country, again due to the footing, were good enough for second place.
The last of our most recent events was back at Will O' Wind with the tougher Dressage Test, a challenging cross-country course followed by an unforgiving stadium course. Some poor luck on our part during our Derssage test (we were being harrassed by a deer fly for the first half of our test) had me certain that we were well out of the running of the large, competitive field of entries (17 horse and rider teams in Regular Training Level). The cross country course took its toll with many of the competitors incurring faults. Foxwind put in a solid performance over the demanding course and finished clean. With stadium being the final phase of the day, many horses were tired and perhaps a little less respectful of giving the jumps the clearence they required to remain up. Stadium, too, took its share of worthy competitors with an unlucky rail or two. A timely, but sufficiently light rub, reminded Foxwind to tuck up his legs and we crossed the finish line with only a ¼ time fault. With such a great effort for us in the jumping phases I thought perhaps maybe we had a chance of being in the top 5. It seemed like hours before they posted the results...wait. It was hours!! But well worth the wait. Foxwind placed First out of an impresssive field of horse and rider combinations.
Thanks to all the organizers, sponsors and volunteers, whose support makes these competitions possible!
