The
Health Ministry is working, together
with the Parish Nurse, to promote,
plan and support activities that
address the health care needs of our
congregation and surrounding
community. The Health Ministry
emphasizes the wholeness of body, mind
and spirit in congregations and
communities.
A Parish Nurse is an RN who
is called to a health and healing
ministry. As a staff member, the
PN is committed to ongoing theological
reflection and education, working with
clergy, the congregation and
community.
Some of the Parish Nurse
functions are:
- Integration of faith and
health
- Personal health and faith
counselor
- Advocate and referral

We, at
St. Matthew's, are fortunate to have Linda
Alldred-Johnson as our Parish Nurse.
Working with the support of the Health
Ministry, she has planned many educational
(Prostrate Cancer Awareness, Arthritis
Self-Management, Medicine Cabinet Sweep),
physical (walk-a-thons, yoga, exercise
groups) and faith events (Care for the
Care Givers, Christian Care Giving).
This began as a pilot project which we
trust will continue as a part of the
ministry that St. Matthew's offers.
Related work on Flu Avoidance and
Emergency Preparedness have sprung from
this work as well.
We believe strongly in the need for this
ministry - both in our church and in our
community. Please read the Parish
