Most people that I've known have been touched by adoption in some way. They are part of the adoption triad, or they know someone who is. I once had someone tell me, upon hearing that I was adopted, 'Oh, I'm sorry to hear that'. Huh? That makes no sense to me! My being adopted is not a handicap, it's not a bad thing, and it doesn't make me any less of a person. This is of course just my opinion. Some adoptees I've met still seem to have the feeling that they were abandoned. I just don't see it that way. My birth parents couldn't take care of me, so they gave me away to a family that could. I think that's one of the most selfless things a person can do. The fact that I had a wonderful adoptive family probably has a lot to do with my outlook. The parents who raised me did a great job...we had problems like any family, but I always felt loved and special. My sister was their natural child, but we were treated the same. I thank my parents for that. I was reunited with my birth family when I was 24. I am one of the lucky ones because the reunion went very well. I've met both my birthparents, my two brothers, uncles, aunts, a grandmother, and cousins. I was not lacking before I met them, but I am undeniably richer from having met them. I am proud to be a Hutchison, Segard, Carter and Kuhnert. I hope that you'll enjoy this page, and maybe find something useful. I've provided some links that I think are really good. I've tried to focus on Canadian adoption (because that's where I live and was adopted!) but search engines are a good way to track down adoption sites for different countries. | ||
