| Fortune Telling With Playing Cards | ||
The traditional deck of playing cards may or may not have been a part of the original Tarot deck. It is still unclear whether or not the two decks were split at one point to make our deck of playing cards or were combined to make what we refer today as the Tarot.
The use of playing cards for fortune telling has been in existence for centuries, probably started by the Romany (Gypsies) when they arrived in Europe in the 16th Century. Although they did not bring cards with them from their homeland (presumably India), they did bring the "art" of fortune telling, and quickly adapted it to the cards that they found. Much of what we think of today as "traditional" meanings for the playing cards comes from the Romany.
