The Montreal Piano Studio was established by Dr. Alexandra Townsend in 1998 as the central focus of her teaching career.

Alexandra completed degrees in piano performance at McGill University (B.Mus), the New England Conservatory (M.Mus) and the University of British Columbia (DMA), and one year of private post-doctoral studies in London, England. Her principal teachers were Dorothy Morton, Patricia Zander, Robert Silverman, Jane Coop and Christopher Elton.

Alexandra has performed in Canada, the US and the UK as a recitalist and chamber musician. She has been active for several years as a festival adjudicator, clinician and lecturer, leading a variety of workshops and master classes. She also developed and taught the piano pedagogy curriculum for McGill University's Faculty of Music.

Alexandra is a Registered Music Teacher with the Association des professeurs de musique du Qu├ębec and examines throughout Canada and the US as a member of the Royal Conservatory of Music's College of Examiners. She also teaches at the McGill Conservatory of Music.
