Current Goal:
CSAR is committed to lobby the IOC to apply  social criteria in their selection of Olympic locations.  We note that the IOC (International Olympic Committee) already applies strict economic and political criteria to their selection decisions for locating Olympic games.
Making selection of host cities subject to social criteria will give the socially disadvantaged a high profile boost by motivating expectant host countries/cities to address the social epidemic/issues in a way that would garner "bottom up" support/momentum for these same social issues from the business community (some of the influencial, "genesis" decision makers).... all over the world!   It would also encourage the IOC to ring truer to their published notions regarding the Spirit, the purpose, and the benefits of the games - consistent with current Olympic marketing materials.
We are confident that the effects will generalize to the benefit of all socially disadvantaged persons everywhere.  In the United States alone, 1 out of every 5 children lives in poverty.   Statistics are at least as disturbing for every part of the world. ( ref. Catholic Campaign for Human Development, Washington, D.C., 28/03/2000). Countries such as China have long been noted for their horrific human rights inequities.
Why Bother ? and other FAQ's:
In the spring of '96, one CSAR sponsor went to a meeting of Toronto's Alternative Housing Subcommittee (AHS) and experienced communications among the organizations intent on helping the Homeless.  There was dedication, passion, commitment, skill, sincerity, and hope.  There was also profound frustration and concern. These are the front line people who have the task of coping with extraordinary social crises (epidemic!).  25% of the children are living below the poverty line.  Over 5000 children live on the streets or in shelters - no permanent address, no schooling, no social assistance.  The numbers are rising.  Our sponsor came away with a gnawing sense that things will be easier to change when we support these patriots with the resources they need to do their jobs.  To be truly effective, they could use the support of the "genesis" decision makers. We looked around for what we could do to help and CSAR was born - at a particularly opportune moment in Toronto's history as we bid for the 2008 Olympics. Update: Between 1997 and 1999, the number of  homeless in Toronto alone rose from 26,000 to 29,000, (Globe& Mail, 03/28/2000).  The numbers are similar for every community in the world .... worse for 3rd world countries!!!

I don't wonder that so many people search blindly for the "meaning of life".
What they don't seem to understand is that life does not have meaning
through mere existence or acquisition or fun.  The meaning of life is inherent
in the connections we make to others through honor and obligation.
