Metaphysical Interpretations of Bible Scriptures

There is reason to accept that the Bible can be interpreted in more than one way.  Clearly some would want to take the Bible literally.  Scholars have spent much time debating which words should actually be used and what these words were meant to really communicate.  Since many of the books of the New Testament were written decades after Jesus was said to have died; and, since it was originally written

Others, like myself, find it more useful and empowering

I have found two treatments of forgiveness that I find very useful:

A) Forgiveness is letting go of your need to rewrite the past.

B) Here is what "A Course in Miracles" says about forgiveness:

Forgiveness recognizes what you thought your brother did to you has not occurred.  It does not pardon sins and make them real.  It sees there was no sin.  And in that view are all your sins forgiven.  What is sin, except a false idea about God's Son?  Forgiveness merely sees its falsity, and therefore lets it go.  What then is free to take its place is now the Will of God.

An unforgiving thought is one which makes a judgment that it will not raise to doubt, although it is not true.  The mind is closed, and will not be released.  The thought protects projection, tightening its chains, so that distortions are more veiled and more obscure; less easily accessible to doubt, and further kept from reason.  What can come between a fixed projection and the aim that it has chosen as its wanted goal?

An unforgiving thought does many things.  In frantic action it pursues its goal, twisting and overturning what it sees as interfering with its chosen path.  Distortion is its purpose, and the means by which it would accomplish it as well.  It sets about its furious attempts to smash reality, without concern for anything that would appear to pose a contradiction to its point of view.

Forgiveness, on the other hand, is still, and quietly does nothing.  It offends no aspect of reality, nor seeks to twist it to appearances it likes.  It merely looks, and waits, and judges not.  He who would not forgive must judge, for he must justify his failure to forgive.  But he who would forgive himself must learn to welcome truth exactly as it is.

Do nothing, then, and let forgiveness show you what to do, through Him Who is your Guide, your Savior and Protector, strong in hope, and certain of your ultimate success.  He has forgiven you already, for such is His function, given Him by God.  Now must you share His function, and forgive whom He has saved, whose sinlessness He sees, and whom He honors as the Son of God.

Blessing your circumstances

I recently ( September, 2002) called in to Silent Unity, the prayer line sponsored by Unity Church, Unity Village, Kansas City, Missouri. They have had people praying continously there ( for people like you and I) since 1886.  As a follow up, they sent me a reminder by regular mail.  In it was the following regarding Blessing:

Have you tried blessing it?

If you are facing a problem, if there is some unfulfilled longing in your heart, or if you have an urgent need in your life, have you tried blessing it?  If you are having difficulty getting along with someone, have you tried blessin him or her?  If you need better health, have you tried blessing your body?  If you need greater supply, have you tried blessing your circumstances?

What does it mean to bless a problem, a need, or a situation?  To bless it is to quit fighting it.  Perhaps this is the meaning, in part at least, of Jesus' words, "Agree with thine adversary quickly"  ( Mt. 5:25 KJV).  To bless anything is to agree with it spiritually, to see the goodness of God where before you have seen something disturbing, troubling, or harmful.

When you bless a troublesome situation, an unhappy environment, an unhealthy body, or the appearance of lack or failure, you are letting go of fear and anxiety.  You are seeing the goodness of God that is always present and remembering that the loving presence of God is always with you.

When you bless your problems, a change will always take place, but the first and greatest change that will take place is within you.  You cannot say "I bless this situation ( or this person or this need);  I see the goodness of god at work," and still feel fearful.  When you bless someone or something, a change takes place in your thinking and feeling.  Your words of blessing are spiritually powerful as you enfold conditions, situations, and people in heartfelt thoughts.

Sometimes we are asked, " Just how do you go about blessing something that has seemed to resist preyers, tears, and everything else?"

Suppose, for example, that you are worried about your situation. Your finances seem to be in chaos;  you have obligations that seem beyond your ability to meet;  you are so worried that it is affecting your work, and you are finding it difficult to concentrate.  You feel separated from God's help and God's love.

Then you think of prayer and of  blessing your situation, and you decide to try it.  so, you start with the thing that seems to be worrying you most -- your finances -- and you bless them, giving thanks that God is the source of your supply.  You bless your mind for its ability to use wisdom and good judgment in handling your finances.  Then you bless your environment and your family, letting go of unhappy or quarrelsome thoughts.  You bless everything and everyone around you and behold the goodness of God at work.  You bless your mind, your heart, and your hands.  What is the result?  When you consciously take time to bless yourself, your life, and everyone around you, you not only experience a more peaceful state of mind, you actually call on a higher power which brings about results that are sometimes astonishing.

My favority prayer.  Note that it is not a beseeching prayer.

A Chela's Prayer
I go forth this day in all things immersed wholly in God and God's abundance
The conquering Christ in me stands forth, one with God's abundance
And in every activity of this day.
Now I know, IAM God's supreme child.
I move each moment of this day immersed in God and God's divine love.

God, God, God.  The great flame of Love flows through every atom of my whole being.
I AM the pure goldenflame of God and I pour this Divine flame through my physical body.
The conquering Christ salutes you God, my father/mother.
Peace, peace, peace.  The great peace of God prevails.

One of my favorite meditations

I AM in the palm of his/her hands .... far above the stars,
Where God's love fills me until ... I recognize that I AM ONE with him/her.
God, You are my Self.
Your light fills my days with never-ending sunshine.
Your love fills my heart with such Joy that tears fill my hear
And my heart explodes with Love.
God I know you are my Self.
For there is no space in this Universe where you and I are not one.
God I love you.
And I know that you love me.
No greater love exists than this.
My hear is thine.
