One of the purposes attributed to inukshuit  is that they serve as markers or signposts to help guide the Inuit across the treeless tundra of the Canadian Arctic.
  For countless centuries the people of our far north have depended on caribou to be a mainstay in their  subsistence.  Much  rode on the success or failure of the hunt.  One of the great achievements in changing  the odds of the hunt into the favour of ancient northerners was the inukshuk or cairns of rock stacked to resemble human beings. V-shaped avenues of inukshuks lead the caribou to the slaughter once driven between the cairns at the wide end of the double column (often more than a km between). Once the animals had passed the inukshuks, women and even children would jump out from behind the towering rocks and give chase, leaping, yelling and waving their arms in the air. As the alley narrowed, the animals may have realized they had been led to their slaughter, but by then it would have been too late, the hunters with their spears, were upon them. 

  Inukshuk (singular), meaning "likeness of a person" in Inuktitut (the Inuit language) is a stone figure made by the Inuit. The plural is inuksuit. The Inuit make inuksuit in different forms and for different purposes: to show directions to travellers, to warn of impending danger, to mark a place of respect, or to act as helpers in the hunting of caribou. Similar stone figures were made all over the world in ancient times, but the Arctic is one of the few places where they still stand. An inukshuk can be small or large, a single rock, several rocks balanced on each other, round boulders or flat.

  Inukshuk in the form of human beings, called inunnguaq, seem to have been a recent development, perhaps only appearing after the arrival of European whalers in the 19th century. One of the most important types of inuksuit are those that helped in the caribou hunt. These are usually built with 2 or 3 rocks piled up and placed in converging lines along the migration route of the herd. The Inuit placed arctic heather among the rocks to simulate human hair. The figures were intended to spook the caribou and stampede them towards the places where the hunters hid.
  An open leg on an inukshuk found near water or a coastline may point to an open channel for navigation. If an inukshuk is on open land, a leg or arm might suggest a direction. Inuksuit placed near a lake might show that fish can be found in the lake at the roughly same distance the figure is placed from the shoreline. Two or more Inuksuit with openings in them were sometimes lined up to act as sort of view port, directing the viewer to an important focal point or to the next Inukshuk. 
  Some inuksuit are built out of respect for a beloved person or are constructed as memorials to a cherished one. Primarily found in the Arctic landscape, the Inukshuk serves as a guide to travellers on land and sea, providing comfort, advice and spatial orientation. An Inukshuk also serves as a focus of veneration for the spiritual seeker. For centuries, the Inukshuk structure has acted as a guardian to keep vigil over the land and remains a powerful symbol of safe harbour in an uncertain world.

In the magical relm, inukshuks are places of power. They concentrate the energies of the stones used to create them. Inukshuks are rooted in the Earth but lift upward to the sky, symbolically representing the interconnectedness of the physical and spiritual realms. They also serve to act as reminders to us of our dependence on one another. 

Whatever the purpose for its construction, remember that Inuit tradition forbids the destruction of an Inukshuk.

Un des buts attribués à inukshuit sont qu'ils servent des bornes ou des poteaus indicateurs pour aider le guide le Inuit à travers le tundra sans arbres du Canadien Arctique. Pour les siècles innombrables les gens de notre grand nord ont dépendu de caribou pour être un mainstay dans leur subsistance. Beaucoup voyager sur le succès ou l'échec de la chasse. Un des grands accomplissements dans changer la cote de la chasse dans le service d'habitants du nord anciens était le inukshuk ou cairns de rocher ont empilé pour
ressembler à des êtres humains. Les avenues en forme de V de plomb de inukshuks le caribou à l'abat une fois conduit entre le cairns à la fin large de la colonne double (souvent plus qu'un km entre). Une fois les animaux avaient passé le inukshuks, les femmes et même les enfants sauteraient hors de derrière les rochers de towering et donne leurs bras dans l'air à la chasse, à sautant, hurlant et à onduler. Comme l'allée est devenue plus étroite, les animaux ont pu se rendre compte ils avaient été mené à leur abat, mais
par alors cet aurait été trop tardif, les chasseurs avec leurs javelots, étaient sur eux. 

Inukshuk (singulier), signifiant "le portrait d'une personne" dans Inuktitut (la langue de Inuit) est une figure de pierre faite par le Inuit. Le pluriel est inuksuit. Le inuksuit de marque de Inuit dans les formes différentes et pour les buts différents: montrer des directions
aux voyageurs, avertir de danger imminent, marquer un endroit de respect, ou servir des aides dans le chasser de caribou. Les figures similaires de pierre ont été faites partout dans le monde dans les temps anciens, mais l'Arctique est un des peu de place où ils calme se tient.
Un inukshuk peut être petit ou grand, un rocher seul, plusieurs rochers équilibrés sur chaque autres, galets circulaires ou plat. 

Inukshuk sous forme d'êtres humains, inunnguaq appelé, sembler avoir été un développement récent, peut-être seulement apparaître après l'arrivée de whalers européen au dix-neuvième siècle. Celui des types les plus importants de inuksuit sont ces qu'a aidé dans la chasse de caribou. Ces sont d'habitude construit avec 2 ou 3 rochers a accumulé et placé dans converger de lignes le long de la route de migration du troupeau. Deux ou plus de Inuksuit avec les ouvertures dans eux ont été parfois alignés pour servir du genre d'hublot, dirigeant le téléspectateur à un point de convergence important ou au Inukshuk prochain. Quelque inuksuit est
construit de respect pour une personne bien-aimée ou est construit comme les monuments commémoratifs à un celui a chéri. Principalement trouvé dans le paysage Arctique, le Inukshuk sert d'un guide aux voyageurs sur la terre et de la mer, le confort fournissant, le conseil et l'orientation spatiale. Un Inukshuk sert aussi d'un focus de vénération pour le chercheur spirituel. Pour les siècles, la structure de Inukshuk a servi d'un gardien pour garder la veille par-dessus la terre et reste un symbole puissant de port sûr dans un monde incertain. 

Dans le relm magique, inukshuks est des endroits de pouvoir. Ils concentrent les énergies des pierres ont utilisé pour les créer. Inukshuks est rooted dans la Terre mais élever au ciel, symboliquement représenter le interconnectedness des royaumes physiques et
spirituels. Ils servent aussi pour servir des rappels à nous de notre dépendance sur l'un l'autre. 

Quoi que le but pour sa construction, se souvenir de cette tradition de Inuit défend la destruction d'un Inukshuk.
