Hand Tools: Hand tools such as shovels, axes, pulaskies, and back pack pumps are used for numerous tasks in forest firefighting. Radio Operations: Communications are a necessity when working in remote locations and contentions situations. Hose Laying & Water Application: Effective fire suppression tactics relies on a well organized systematic approach to hose laying. The effective application of water can greatly aid the firefighter in containing and extinguishing any fire. Personal Safety On The Fireline: In any forest fire situation there are physical and environmental conditions that will affect your personal safety and the safety of your co-workers. Safety Around Chainsaw Operations: We must realize that our personal safety and that of others hinges on becoming familiar with safe working practices while in the vicinity of any chainsaw operation. Power Pump Set-Up: The Mark 3 power pump is one of the main suppression tools used in Ontario today. Is is very important to know how to properly set-up, operate and retrieve a power pump efficiently.
