The Wm. Saunders Rose Society

The Wm. Saunders Rose Society was founded November 6, 1999 at Rosebank and organized as an unincorporated association under Ontario law on March 4, 2000.

The name recalls a famous Canadian, Dr. Wm. Saunders who grew up in London and hybridized the first Canadian-bred rose ('Agnes') which is still in world-wide commerce. A direct descendant of Wm. Saunders is one of our patrons.

The Society objectives are:
- to promote an interest in, and appreciation of all kinds of roses, in the region of Ontario stretching roughly from Sarnia to Tillsonburg, and from Chatham to Stratford;

- to share knowledge of how to grow roses, teach judging secrets, and facilitate bulk orders from distant rose suppliers;

- to find interesting speakers, and arrange tours of exceptional rose gardens;

- to help horticultural organizations in the region with their rose shows and other rose interests;

- to help sister organizations across Canada by participating in national objectives and sharing resources where possible.

What will the Wm. Saunders Rose Society do for you?
We hold four (or more) meetings each year - with rose speakers, rose activities, rose talk, fellowship and refreshments. Meetings are held in different communities throughout the region, normally in the months of March, June, September, and November.

We put you in touch with a member that can advise you on your particular rose problems.
We provide a newsletter on meetings and activities planned each year.
We organize tours to outstanding gardens or special events.
We bulk-order roses of your choice from special rose sources.
We let you borrow books from our rose library.
We offer our prize for rose novices competing in rose shows within the region.

Annual membership is $10.00 for an individual; $15.00 for a family. Send your cheque to the Treasurer, Wm. Saunders Rose Society, 10 Torrington Crescent, London, Ontario, N6C 2V9 along with your name, address, telephone, FAX, and Email.
