4. Palatine Fruit & Rose Nurseries Ltd.

Roland Craig had ordered 33 roses from Palatine and Pickering rose nurseries. He will be going to Palatine on 13 April, 2011. Roland will pick-up other orders if arrangements have been made.

5. National-Roses-Canada.

The N-R-C needs a new Treasurer and President. Harry will continue as Secretary. There is a problem of encouraging replacements from a younger generation for executive members. Roses have been getting a bad reputation lately for intensive care.

6. New Members.

Bill Dow and Zina Dow from Ilderton have just joined the Wm. Saunders Rose Society.

7. Guest Speaker.

Roland Craig introduced Edith Michaelsski from Lee Valley Tools. Ms.Michaelsski is a graduate of Centralia Agricultural College and has worked for Lee Valley Tools for 17 years. Her motto is “Work smart not hard”. She handed out gardening tips from Fine Gardening magazine. There were a variety of tools on display. The audience was asked about their favourite tool. Edith said that her brain was her best tool. It was recommended to buy the very best quality tool that you can afford and to take proper care of them. Test or modify the hand grip. For example, sand down or add salt to a rubber grip. Other considerations are weight, the angle that it approaches the ground, balance, and sharpness. A secateur with a rolling handle was tested.

Harry McGee thanked Ms.Michaelsski.

8. Refreshment Break.

9. Election of Officers.

The following will stand for re-election for 2011: Ken Barks (Ingersoll), Richard Cartwright (St.Thomas), Tom Cox (Byron), Roland Craig (Mt.Brydges), Ron Foster (St.Thomas), Harry McGee (London), Liz Taylor (London), and Al Whitfield (London). Roland Craig asked three times for nominations from the floor. There were no other nominations. The slate was elected as presented.

10. Insurance.

Proof of insurance from the society has been asked by different meeting places. Only full members of the Ontario Horticultural Association have blanket coverage.

11. O.H.A. District 10 Board Meeting.

Roland talked about the District Executive Meeting in Lambeth on 6 November, 2010. One topic discussed was getting more youth involved. There were tips on encouraging membership. Copies are to be made.

12. Early Bloomers Rose Show.

It will take place at Ken and Julie Bark's home in Ingersoll this year. Date to be announced.

13. Wm. Saunders Rose Society Library.

It has been little used. Copies of what it contains will be mailed out once a year. Books can be borrowed at meetings and returned at future meetings.

14. Dorchester Rose Nursery.

Roses are available from this wholesaler in Burgessville through member Jean Chaleyssin of Port Burwell. The list will be posted on the society's website. Roland recommended Palatine Fruit & Roses Ltd. near Niagara-on-the-Lake due to their good quality stock.

15. Marian Obeda suggested a vote of thanks for the work done by the 2010 Board of Directors.

16. Termination at 3:10 p.m.
