1. President Ken Barks welcomed members and guests.
2. Minutes of 26 May, 2012.
Motion: to approve the Minutes as distributed. Moved: Richard Cartwright. Seconded: Harry McGee. Carried. The President remarked that it had been a difficult year to arrange a bus trip.
3. Treasurer's Report.
Balance September 1, 2012 $1,750.91
Motion: to approve the Treasurer's Report. Motion: Harry McGee. Seconded: Bill Lovelock. Carried. The Bank of Montreal wants clarification on the signing authority. Roland Craig and Harry McGee are approved signatures.
5. Annual General Meeting.
Saturday, 3 November, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the St.Thomas Public Library.
N-R-C President Harry McGee visited the Devonian Botanical Gardens in Edmonton for their Annual Rose Day and was their keynote speaker. High tea was served in a garden pavilion with Canadian Heritage Rose expert Margit Schowalter. During his speech, Mr.McGee praised the work of the prairie rose breeders such as Bob Simonet (Edmonton, Alberta), Frank Skinner (Dropmore, Manitoba), and Percy Wright (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan). There is a possibility of rose societies forming in Edmonton and Winnipeg. A garden honouring the work of Canadian plant breeder Isabella Preston is being established at the University of Guelph. It will contain plants that she hybridized. Mr.McGee has donated the Preston roses 'Orinda', 'Carmenetta', and 'Patricia Macoun' to the garden.
7. Nominating Committee.
Motion: to appoint Harry McGee as chair of the committee. Moved: Liz Taylor. Seconded: Julie Barks. Carried.
8. Signing Authority.
The Treasurer, Harry McGee advised the meeting that the Societyís financial institution, The Bank of Montreal, had asked for a resolution to be passed indicating who the authorized signing officers are, and had asked for a standard banking resolution provided by the bank to be approved. Upon motion of Harry McGee, seconded by Julie Barks, it was unanimously approved that the signing officers would be Harry McGee for the first signature, and one of Roland Craig or Alan Whitfield for the second signature in accordance with the Societyís Memorandum of Association, and that the Bank of Montrealís current Authorization form LF 330 and all other forms and writings that may be required be and they are hereby approved to give effect to the above, and the Treasurer, Harry McGee, be and is hereby authorized to certify the foregoing.
9. Membership Efforts.
There was a discussion about ways to attract new members. The Society has tried recently with the Poker Garden Tour. We need to have people visit our rose gardens. Our events should be mentioned in horticultural society newsletters eg. Sarnia. Need to have speakers and door prizes. Could contact secretaries by getting information from the Ontario Horticultural Association. Motion: to appoint Liz Taylor as chair of the committee to promote the society. Moved: Harry McGee. Seconded: Bill Lovelock. Carried. Julie Barks and Harry McGee will join the committee.
10. Roland Papineau.
He extended an invitation to the society to visit his garden of about 400 roses at Bright's Grove after the meeting.
Harry McGee donated $10.00 as a prize for the entry with the most nickels. After a refreshment break to allow voting, the results were announced:
